From historical memorials and museums to water recreation and agritourism attractions, a visitor will find their country in this coastal town. Onslow is one of North Carolina's oldest counties, and its past reflects a rich and varied history. Honoring Our Heroes: National Vietnam War Veterans Day 🇺🇸

Today, we honor the brave men and women who served in the Vietnam War. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation will never be forgotten.

In Onslow County, we are privileged to be home to the second-largest Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the nation, located at Lejeune Memorial Gardens (125 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville, NC 28540). This powerful memorial is one of only a few that lists all the names of the fallen, serving as a poignant tribute to their service. The memorial includes an entry wall with symbols for all branches of the military, a walkway and bridge with French design, a dome, a fountain, and a glass wall etched with the names of those MIA, POW, or KIA.

Take a moment today to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our Vietnam Veterans. Visit the Lejeune Memorial Gardens to pay your respects and learn more about this important part of our history.

Spring is in the air, and so are the birds! 🐦🌷 With spring migration in full swing, Onslow County becomes a haven for birdwatchers. Millions of birds are making their way north, creating incredible opportunities to spot a diverse range of species.

Onslow's Great Outdoors offers an abundance of places to explore and discover the many birds and other wildlife that call our area home. Many of our birding trails overlap with our scenic paddling trails, adding an extra layer of adventure to your birdwatching experience. Explore the New River, Intracoastal Waterways, or North Topsail Beach for prime birding spots.

Prefer to stay on dry land? No problem! Charter a specialty cruise and ask your captain to point out the local avian residents, including the majestic osprey (which shares its name with a certain military aircraft often seen overhead from nearby MCAS Cherry Point!).

We showcased the best of our beautiful area, from our historical sites and outdoors to the local flavors and shops in Onslow. We explored downtown Swansboro and Jacksonville to Sneads Ferry, North Topsail Beach and Richlands. It was a fantastic experience! Thank you to our amazing partners who worked with us on this tour.
