Moving Jacksonville Forward: Why Advocacy Matters. Did you know that when people come to visit the Jacksonville they love it so much they are most likely to return and make it their home? I was one of those folks! And I created a business upstart to tell people who great it was and what I loved about Jax. This is how Explore Jax Core was BIRTHED!!

Last nights panel discussion was on a long standing topic: How to move Jackdonville forward.

The panelist were a group of fresh voice offering their take on the City of Jacksonville as a whole. This was a great step in the right direction and it’s obvious that each panelist has a great adoration for our city and they offered legitimate solutions to moving JAX forward. Jacksonville is turning the corner on its future; comments ranged from education at the VPre-K level and its relation to incarceration planning for third graders, Destination Tourism, business startups (like Explore Jax Core), entrepreneurship, the healthiness of neighborhoods, urban planning and local governmental decisions on downtown growth and urban planning and zoning. So much more….I wish it was longer!

Yollie saw come familiar faces and met some new folks that I hope to work with in 2025. Thank you for making sure Yollie was in the building. The event and mixer was👌🏾.

Thank you and !

The year is 1867 in Georgia. This is my Great Great Grandfather’s (Paternal) Voter’s Registration Card from 1867 - it’s a mere two (2) years after the 🇺🇸 Civil War ends and enslaved Africans, like he, his parents and siblings were freed from enslavement.

He was a Freedman and a “X” marks his signature because, he could not read or write (it was against the law). He voted.

In the subsequent 100 years, voting rights for Black Americans would be extinguished or made very very difficult to take part in or it could cost him his life or livelihood, but he count now VOTED. Voting is foundation of American democracy. Change can happen. Vote. Then Vote again and again in all elections.

Irvin Vaughn was born in Georgia in 1843 +/-. I’ll admit, I haven’t voted in all elections, nor take my son to the polls because my parents didn’t take me, not even one time. But I know better so I better, I’m doing my part.

I am American and a descendent of the Freedman. This is a small piece of my HisStory/HerStory….

What’s in your HisStory?

Inbox me up if you think we are related by blood or if your are a descendant of the enslavers.

{repost Reconstruction Era National Historic
Network}

About 1,000 Black voters were camped outside the city of Eufaula, Alabama the night before election day in 1874, waiting to cast their ballots. Rumors circulated among the White population that the Black voters intended to “invade” the city. The next day, Black Republican voters began to enter the city and cast their ballots. One Black voter admitted to being underage and was taken by White Democrats to a nearby alley and coerced to vote Democratic. Milas Lawrence, a Black Republican, objected to this oovious traud, and was stabbed by a white man. White townspeople then began shooting at Black voters. By the time the smoke cleared, seven Black voters lay dead and more than seventy wounded.

The result of this election day violence was that a thousand Black voters were kept from the polls, and Democrats swept county elections that year. Election day violence like the Eutaula Massacre contributed to White Democrats ousting Republican governments across the South and bringing an end to Reconstruction.
