"We had a short weekend with all three of our grown kids. This house was perfect. The hosts thought of EVERYTHING! It was pet friendly and she even had a kennel in the laundry room! I've never seen this before. Our biggest surprise was the water filter pitcher in the fridge bc we forgot to bring water bottles. The house is remote, so there's no running to the convenience store. We sat out on the front deck for coffee each morning. The house was emaculate with plenty of bedding (and then some)! We've stayed at a lot of vrbo's for travel softball, but we've never had such a stocked kitchen before with kcups, spices, olive oil, etc. She provided two kayaks, but we just stuck with our paddle boards. We had a great time and would most definitely return." -- Debbie

September 21st and 22nd will be our regular Pioneer Days! We can't wait to see you there!
Arrive at 9 and plan to spend most of the day to fully enjoy all the day has to offer! Volunteers begin cleaning up at about 3pm in preparation for the Visitor closing at 3:30pm. A link will be provided for the September 19th through noon the 22nd, 2024, Pioneer Day's schedule in early September—we're still working on scheduling activities for this day!
Featured Heritage Craftspeople
The Heritage Craftspeople featured each year vary, but in the past have included people who perform blacksmithing, tin smithing, weaving and spinning, basket weaving, lace making, using a printing press, sewing, broom making, etc.
Living History Demonstrations
Demonstrations during this annual event vary but may include laundry, churning butter, hearth cooking, making sausage, old-fashioned games, gardening, making dyes, and other daily tasks.
Hands-On Activities
Activities are provided at stations around the museum to enhance visitor experiences and understanding of pioneer life. Activities vary—visitors may be able to weave on a loom, spin wool on a wheel, churn butter, grind corn or coffee, dip candles, create old-fashioned toys, and more.
Music
Period music adds another dimension to Pioneer Day, and over the years has been performed by a variety of very talented musicians. Thank you all for helping to make our event special!
Vendors
Occasionally vendors will be invited to display and sell products that relate to the pioneer theme. Often, the heritage craftspeople will sell their wares or contract for a project during the day.

"Great place! Listing was as described. Kitchen was well stocked and made preparing meals easy. The grill outside had everything needed. There was plenty of wood, fire starters, and lighters for the fire pit. House was extremely clean and cozy. The beds were comfortable and there were extra linens available, plus plenty of extra bath towels and beach towels. The public beach / kayak area was a short drive down the road. The beach was really shallow - perfect for families with kids. Kayaks included with the rental was a huge bonus - we had a great afternoon on the lake. "The cottage was wonderful! It was just what we were looking for- a peaceful place to relax near the water with plenty of boat parking . My husband and his friend were able to get the boats in and out of the circle driveway without any trouble at all. We were able to grill out on the patio every evening, Sarah had everything!

The kitchen has just about anything you can think you might want for preparing a few meals. It was great! We will definitely look to stay at the cottage again next time we are in town."--Kelly

This IS my Happy Place! I wish I had the words to describe how my soul is cleansed with each breath of the fresh fall air, my body comes alive with the touch of the cool breeze, and the weight of the world melts away with the whisper of leaves falling and acorns pinging off the metal roof. And did I mention the joy that comes with the little voice of my daughter's fascination with every new discovery as she explores and collects acorns? She might rival the many squirrels prepping for winter! My happy place.
