Golf Trail Tip of the Month: Indian Rock Golf Club

Phil Kostelac, Pro Shop Manager at Indian Rock Golf Club in Gravois Mills, offers this advice for tackling hole #12 at his course:

"The Par 5 #12 hole is certainly a challenge but, with the right approach and ex*****on, a birdie or better is more than possible.

To start, it is imperative to find the narrow landing space off the tee on the left side of the fairway, otherwise you will be fighting the tree line to the right of the fairway and the vast right-to-left slope of the fairway.

The blind second shot with the ball above your feet for right handed golfers can be reachable in two shots with a perfect drive and the ability to work the ball right to left.

Your second or third shot can't be too long of the green or you risk a lost ball penalty. If you are short of the green, don't be afraid to pull out the putter as opposed to a wedge because the green slopes front to back making the ball almost impossible to stop unless you can really spin it.

From there, it's all down to your putting game. Good luck!"

November marks the opening of the Lake area's drive-through light parks:.

The Enchanted Village of Lights, located at the Laurie Fairgrounds in Laurie, opens to the public on Thursday, Nov. 21. The Enchanted Village of Lights is open from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The Enchanted Village of Lights will be open for guests through January 1, 2025.

Just down the road from the Enchanted Village of Lights is the Festival of Lights at the Shrine of St. Patrick in Laurie, celebrating the birth of baby Jesus and his mother, Mary. The Festival of Lights is open from 5-10 p.m. beginning Thursday, Nov. 21 and ending on January 5, 2025.

The Osage Beach Holiday Light Park at Osage Beach City Park opens on Friday, Dec. 1 and runs from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. all week long. The Osage Beach Holiday Light Park closes for the season on December 31, 2024.

Admission to all light parks is free though donations are welcome.
