Getting to be close and personal with some of Gods most amazing creations never gets old.

These are just a few shots from around the park this week. We would like to remind you that animals are a lot like us humans. They are up and moving early looking for food. During the hottest points of the day (include that heat index because it can be ten degrees hotter) they enjoy the shade in the shaded routes, and they may even rest to conserve energy, just look we would do in the extreme temps. Whether you’re feeding them next to the car or enjoying them in their natural element, it is all magical.

Don’t forget that we have over 50+ amazing creatures in the gift shop as well! Those lucky babies get to enjoy the AC right along with you!

So come on out to Lonesomw Dove Drive Thru Safari and Sanctuary located at 1782 North US Hwy 59 in Jefferson, Texas. Open 10:30-4:30 (last car in) weather permitting! We look forward to seeing you!

We’ve got some BIG news to share that is in keeping with babies……..since it is the baby season………our sweet Mazey finally had her baby.

We are letting mom and daughter ( we believe) bond but you can be sure to catch them glued to each other inside of our drive thru portion of the safari park. This little beauty is the parks first zdonk and we have been anxiously awaiting her arrival. They don’t come much cuter than that!

And speaking of cuteness, don’t forget we are selling our the baby bottles at 11 and 3 PM for baby feedings in the petting zoo. We have a baby bison, pony, Pere David deer and sheep. So come down early and see some the absolute coolest animals around. Bottles are $10 per bottle.

We are located at 1782 North US Hwy 59 in Jefferson, Texas. Open 7 days a week 10:30-4:30 last car in.

This post is a long time coming for us and these amazing creatures we were lucky to intervene with.

Back in Spring of 2023 we started planning a parakeet walkabout. By the end of the summer, we had this great aviary area almost complete when we received a call from one of our rescue Vetrinary friends. She asked us to contact an elderly gentleman who had recently had a stroke and was now unable to tend to his large parrots in the manner in which they had become accustomed. So, we gave him a call and made an appointment to come and visit him and his birds.

At our visit you could tell that a few of them were not adjusting well to their owners absence or the change in their routine that had been established for years. We all agreed that we would need to remove 2 Scarlet Macaws and 3 Blue and Gold Macaws and transport them to the park as soon as possible. We had to make a few adjustments to the aviary since these birds are nothing like parakeets, but once we had that done, we were ready for these new babies to join us.

Due to the extreme stress these highly intelligent birds can experience with change, we kept their living conditions as close to what they have known for over the last 20 years. But this week we released them into the aviary!!!!

This is their first time to be in such a large open area with high or low perches. Rather than living in their large parrot cages, they are able to climb, roam and squawk away inside of their new home.

A few of them still have hair to regrow as they began to pluck their own feathers from stress once their environment became suddenly disrupted with their owners hospitalization. These birds are so intelligent and inquisitive. We have no doubt they will bounce back and be as beautiful as ever with time and care.

So please help us welcome these beauties and if you can take time to visit, come and see them. Their aviary is in the walk thru zoo or you can see them when the narrow gauge train passes by their enclosure.

Sunday June 9th

The drive thru portion of the park is still closed due to the low level flooding of Black Cypress Bayou. BUT we still have our petting and walk thru zoo, gift shop animals (50+ inside the gift shop) and our narrow gauge train running and we are offering that for $7 per person until we can reopen the drive thru.

In addition to that, we have a bottle baby bison in the petting/walk thru zoo! Baby Luna is 3 weeks old today and she’s been hands down one of the favorite babies to raise by the park family. Full of energy and personality, this little one will steal your heart.

So come on out and meet her and all of her friends at Lonesome Dove Safari. Located at 1782 North Us Hwy 59 in Jefferson, Texas. Open 7 days a week 10:30-4:30 (last car in) weather permitting.

📣📣📣📣 7$ DAYS 📣📣📣📣

Given the large amount of rain we have received over the past week, our drive thru portion of the park will be closed in order to let water absorb in some areas and recede in others.

As a result, we will open the 50+ smaller animals in the gift shop as well as our petting/walk thru area (currently with a bottle baby bison, pony, deer and bottle baby sheep) to the public for a cost of $7 per person. Come out and enjoy the cooler temps while they last, feed some animals and make some memories.

We will update the page when the drive thru portion is reopened.

Due to large amount of rain we have received over the last few days, we will only be opening the petting/walk thru and the gift shop animals for a reduced rate. Everyone will be $7 each (children or adult). We will open at 10:30 and take the last car in at 3:30 today.

We are hoping that Mother Nature cooperates and some of the water can be absorbed throughout the coming hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and we look forward to seeing you at the park soon!
