Check out this vintage postcard of the Stuckey's Carriage Inn restaurant! Originally built in 1960 as the Holiday Inn, it was purchased in 1963 by Bill Stuckey, vice president of Stuckey's Inc. The motel featured 106 rooms and even had a pool in the shape of the state of Georgia! 🏨

Do you remember staying at the Corsair Motel? ⛵ Named after the yachts the Morgan family sailed during the Club Era, this motel showcased stunning mid-century modern architecture featuring numerous windows, horizontality, and a radiant gable roof at the entrance. The Nautilus restaurant on the second floor provided guests with breathtaking beach views.

This is Villa Marianna, the last cottage built in the Historic District! Built for Frank Miller Gould, the cottage was named for his daughter Marianne and was built in the Spanish Eclectic style in the summer of 1928. With 15 rooms and six baths, the structure was constructed by Brunswick native, George Cowman. Nowadays, while not open to the public, it's used as the Jekyll Island Archives. 🏡 🌺

Have you ever played tennis on Jekyll? 🎾 The game of tennis has been on Jekyll Island since at least 1903, when the game was massively popular and on par with the game of golf with how in demand it was. Pictured are Club members Florence Crane and Florence Higgenbotham having fun on the courts in 1929.

Chicota Cottage

Chicota Cottage

To conclude our lost cottages series, we introduce the wonderful Chicota Cottage. Constructed in the Italian Renaissance style for David King Jr., this served as the vacation residence for Edwin Gould and his family for 17 years. This single-story structure provided the family with a pool, a fruit orchard, and a private dock. The cottage was no longer used by the family after the passing of Edwin Jr. in a hunting accident on Jekyll, and in 1941 the structure was dismantled due to falling into disrepair.
