Have you eaten barbecue today? You should--it's National BBQ Day--and what a great day to celebrate.

According to the National Park Service, hundreds of guests to the LBJ Ranch dined on delicious barbecued ribs or brisket smoked over pits in the barbecue grove. Music from the guitars and trumpets of mariachi bands filled the grove with a festive air. These outdoor barbecues were simultaneously great show, great fun, and serious politics.

Next to him in line are Mrs. Guillermo Sevilla-Sacasa, wife of the Nicaraguan ambassador to the US and Nellie Connally (husband John was the governor of Texas at the time).
