Heart Rock is a lot closer than you think but requires a little bit of hiking and scrambling near Arch Rock. It is roughly 1300’ away from the last campsite in the White Tank Campground. Stop in at Hero Market and look at the awesome black and white pics in the restaurant that show Giant Rock and all the wild history of the area!

Be extra extra careful rolling up and down SR-247 Old Woman Springs Road. Lots of traffic and accidents going on.

No better place to celebrate Christmas than Christ Park. Make sure to find new angles and textures to make your adventure pics amazing! 📷🤳

Did you ever notice that some of the statues have weird hands:

Frank Antone Martin was an artist from Inglewood, CA just like 😂 He built one of the statues hoping to put it on the rim of the Grand Canyon but the NPS rejected it. Thanks NPS 😜. It found its way to Yucca Valley on March 22, 1951. Life Magazine even shared the arrival of the statue in their April 23, 1951 issue. Life Magazine was out here a lot back then capturing our UFO conventions at Giant Rock.

Legend says that the truck couldn't drive up the grade so they drove it up in REVERSE for the added torque?
⬇️
But let's get back to the weird hands. We promised you that. In the 1960's, the town of Yucca Valley wanted to make money off of the statues because people were driving up to see them. They started charging ADMISSION $ and Frank lost his mind. So much so that he cut the hands off of the statues in protest. The town agreed to stop charging admission and he had to morph back on those weirdly shaped hands you see today.

This is where we start guessing at lore. Christ Park is half owned by the nearby church and the other half is owned by the Rosalin Mine in Big Bear.
⬇️
We can't remember how this plays in, but Bill Pace of Disney fame lived in Yucca Valley. He was the creator of Old Miner and Donkey Judy. He created animated creatures for Disney and was famous for his mechanical "Bucking Horses" that could be mounted to corral fences for rodeo training and just plain fun. His house may have been called "Mountain View Ranch" and was near the 1st Fire Department in Yucca Valley near Kickapoo Trail.

Everyone takes a pic at the West Gate in Joshua Tree... but how cool is this pic as you exit the North Gate in 29 Palms? "Leaving Joshua Tree National Park". And let's be honest, trying to get that West Gate pic is extremely difficult. There is no parking, and walking through all of that traffic is dangerous. The North Gate is calm and spread out and relaxed nice. You can take pics of the "welcome" and "good-bye" signs with no worries in 29. Plus look how cool that backdrop is that spans the city and the MCAGCC 29 Palms military base. 😍

This is an AWESOME spot to grab a pic of you "leaving" the JTNP. This "Leaving Joshua Tree National Park" sign is directly across the street from the entrance sign and there is plenty of parking... so that should be a hint. There is ZERO parking at the most famous gate... so this is not that one. 😂 50/50 chance now. Off in the distance? MCAGCC. Way too many hints. 🤭🤫🤔 Also a huge shoutout to the random classic Toyota Landcruiser that just happened to be rolling in.

We filled this frame WAY TOO MUCH... but the size of this Cholla Cactus (Cylindropuntia fosbergii) was too impressive to pass up. Sir Mix-A-Lot said it best, "I like 'em round, and big." It looks like a close relative of the Teddy Bear (Jumping) Cholla found in the Cholla Gardens. We are NOT plant experts... it might be another species of Cactus... that's just our guess.
