Noa took a break from chasing big waves all over the world to spend the weekend with me and his buddies Shawn and Boddie. Glad they had some action and some good eats.
Great time once again with our old friend Stephen. He has amassed an amazing record of catches on his 16 years of fishing on the Northern Lights. This year was no exception catching blues each day while we put in our time in waiting for Stephen’s Grander. Always low pressure always a fun easy week. Already counting down to your 17th season with us.
@scottlevinhmy in town for a day on the ocean before he works on a project here next week. Scotty did a catch a cook with @elizabetenakamaru with a ahi we caught. Scotty fished with me here in summer of 1994 before we headed to Madeira to fish together. Be Summer of 1995 with @tracy_melton. Great to remember all the great fishing we had with Peter Wright on the Duyfken. We weighted numerous granders together in Australia and Madeira and as co captains caught a bunch of big fish together. I learned a ton from Scotty and Pete and really owe them for a lot of my early success polishing what my Kona mentors had taught me. 2024 makes it 30years since we fished together here in Kona. Elizabete and I are greatful for the visit pointing out how fast time has gone by and the need to be with key people we spent such special years with. Thanks for coming Scotty A Hui Ho!! #duyfken #sushinight #catchandcook #northernlights #elizabthstable #freshfish #linecaughtahi
Spent a great week with our friend Ken on the 37. We tried hard for a big fish and caught a good number of small ones to keep things interesting. Timing wise it was close being here when Kona’s first Grander was caught on the Bwana with Capt Teddy Hoogs 1083 pounds. Kens patience and focus for one big fish will pay off he he keeps his vibe going. Looking forward to trying for “the one” again soon
Gotta love the old bucket trick
Magical week with the Fohey’s and Osborne’s fishing hard on the little boat that Terry owned for many years from 1998-2008. Lots of stories and laughs during crazy good fishing. Big thanks to you T for coming to see us and for all the help you have given me over the years to build Northern Lights Sportsfishing what it is today. A Hui Ho
Caught a nice fish right off the bat for the Massengill’s setting the lines out. Early bird gets the worm.
Great few days with @masheilafishing and the Henry’s for a few days fishing and hunting. The good fishing continues with good numbers of blues and spears. Hopefully it continues sure been fun.
The Stoneburners had a busy day on the Spencer yesterday. So cool to see a father and son have a good day together. They both got their first spearfish for their Royal Slams.
Good couple days with Clark with 3 blues 4 spears a ahi and a ono.
Wrapped up our tournament run of fishing. Big thanks to Rob Craig Gene and Paul for fishing them with us. Sorry for the lack of action shots due to having to get tags in our fish to get the points we need to stay competitive. We caught a bunch of small fish and spearfish and stuck to our plan to try for the big fish. Saw 4 nice fish during the week having one settled down with 500 yards out and some how pulled the hook. It was really fun fishing with great action and in all the events a big fish could have won it all. We wish Team Southern Exposure all the best of luck next week where they are fishing in Bermuda on the Sea Toy in the middle leg of the Triple Crown. For us we are excited to get back to charter fishing a bunch of days ahead of incredible action here in Kona.
Great June trip to kick off our summer. Nice to be back fishing for Melton International Tackle and Tracy Melton. Madeira is always a special place for us to go back to. My trips on my career world tour always hinged on timing a great bite and catching a bunch of fish for it to be a success. Now I still hope for that kind of fishing but I return to Madeira for its beauty ,culture ,friends and family. There were nights that dinners with my Madeira family felt like we were in a movie. We got a ton of work done on the Grander every day then went out fishing in the middle of it all. We had a few marks that didn’t bite and had a nice one on before we left that came off. The season there is off to a great start with steady fishing relative to grander hunting.Towards the end of our trip it started to warm up and feel like it was going to bite making it hard to leave. I’m always sad to leave Madeira proving it’s worth to me as a place I will always go back to every year now. Best of luck to all the boats there thank you for your hospitality and friendship. Catch em up we will see you next June.
Cam and I fished our first day on @melton_tackle s boat Grander and saw something you rarely get to see. The Pesca Grossa the boat I ran for many years here hooked up next to us and we got to see them catch a Grander. I had just finished posting on my previous post that I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the incredible fishing I once saw here and did. Big congratulations to Capt Carlos, Curtis and Chico on a great catch. Captain Frothy I am so happy you have her logging yet another Grander to her long history here. Congratulations on a great start to your season. Many more to come
Spent another 8 days in the boat yard re powering the 37 as the restoration continues. Without having to reinvent much of the installation Cam and I did most of it. Big thanks to Vic from Transmission Technology for help with changing our seals. Sherwin Yamasaki and Keith Edward’s of Topshape Marine for the advise and intel along the way. Lito of Litos Marine over the top with help in the shop and helping us with getting the last details before start up. Demetris of Honokohau Machine and Tool got us out of the weeds a few times with machine work to keep us moving forward.
Big thanks to everyone at The Yard for all the help. Brenden did amazing job with the forklift getting the motors into that little boat. Papa my girls and I went out for a shake down half day and got a blue and a 28 pound Otaru. Everything ran smooth so far. Looking forward to a good summer. We head to Madeira for a quick trip to fish Melton Tackles boat Grander for 3 weeks.
