Yoshiro and Mari finished up strong with a great last 2 days we raised 2 double header blues all perfect size for fly fishing. One the second double the fish were so hot that at the last second one grabbed the teaser as it was headed to eat the fly. It opened its mouth to eat the fly and finally let go of the teaser. Wild! Yoshiro fought that one for about 10 minutes before we pulled the hook. Early afternoon we raised a 140 pounder that didn’t switch. Boys did a great job but the fish didn’t find the fly. Late in the day Mari had a spear on one of 16 pound tippet that we lost after a few seconds. They hooked a slam while here on fly making a fun tri. We are going to try our hooks next trip and pray the fishing are biting again.

Yoshiro Saito and Mari Kitagawa from Japan have been here fly fishing. After a slow day one we had a good day yesterday. We were trolling in a school of aku and had big marks under them. Turned out to be big ahi and one blew up on the left teaser twice. Sickened by that having no hooks out we worked the area and switched a double header stripey to Mari’s fly. After a few second run it came off. This picture is of everyone waiting for what turned out to be a big ahi.

Roy Cronacher finished up yesterday with an action packed day. Had a small blue switch to the 8 lb on a double header. The smaller of the 2 bit and were off to the races. Our battle was short lived as the fish just went warp speed which was too much for the 8 lb. Not long later we found another doubleheader and the smaller of the 2 bit and again Roy was hooked up 12 this time. Unfortunately it looked like the fish bit in front of the fly and after a great set of jumps it was gone. Had a few blow ups that didn’t tease in and a few mahi bites to finish our day. Our conversion this week was very good. and switched 2-3 on spears 1-2 on stripes and 3-4 on blues. Many times we struggle with conversion mostly because the fish won’t come in. The few that didn’t switch were in range which made it a great week. Releasing a slam on the way to Roy’s 5th complete fly caught royal slam. .org

Roy Cronacher completed caught his 5th short billed spearfish on 8 pound tippet today on the Northern Lights. This one was the first of 3 that we saw today. We caught this one first, had another that didn’t switch and had a big one hooked up that late in the day that got away. We had a striped marlin in the mix that we didn’t get to switch. Nice to have the shots. Looking forward to tomorrow.
