First arriving on the Big Island over 20 years ago, I remember thinking that it was not at all what I had expected. It appeared more as if I had landed on the moon than on a tropical island in paradise. Well, don’t let that fool you. Actually, it just adds to the complexity and diversity of America’s biggest island and one of earth’s truly greatest wonders. I travelled with my family all over many

of the Hawaiian Islands, but when we decided to buy a home and put down roots, there was no contest that the Big Island was where it had to be. From the beautiful beaches and water sports, scenic waterfalls, exclusive hiking trails, highest mountains, fine dining, gorgeous golf courses, and erupting volcano, there is never a lack of things to do. Sometimes just soaking up the always abundant sunshine, gathering some R&R while enjoying the spirit of Aloha is all one needs. The Big Island is whatever you want it to be, but without a shadow of a doubt, it truly is WANDERFULL and PARADISE ON EARTH. On the Big Island, you can spend your day splashing in a sea adventure. Choose from a boat tour, deep sea fishing, sunset sail, whale watching, snorkeling, diving, stand up paddling, canoeing, swimming with manta rays, taking surf lessons, parasailing, jet skiing, and even swimming with dolphins. Keeping it a bit on the dryer side, embark on a walking or biking tour of the volcano, ATV touring, zip lining, horseback riding, hiking, or going to a lu’au. If you insist on getting a bit wet, take a kayak tour and go Flumin’ the Kohala Ditch, one of my favorites. Some travelers may choose to experience the vastness of the island and the diverse scenary by flying the skies on a helicopter over the valleys, waterfalls, and volcano.
