A few fun (yet respectful) days on property. We have had a hard time getting much done as we've had the glorious opportunity to observe the behavior of our new "guest". Being at the bottom of the food chain, they are fearless, magnificent creatures. Respectfully we gave him space and allowed him to be the "king of the hill" for a few days. He's bored now and has moved on. Although we see them often, we rarely get to view them in 'Montana Up Close' for 2 full days.

IT’S GO HIKING PLANNING TIME
Unpredictability defines the weather along the Continental Divide that bisects Glacier National Park. Pack synthetic layers for unexpected temperature swings in Montana!

Here’s a great recommended packing list for hiking in Montana:

DAY TRIP PACKING LIST
* 2 quart sized water bottles or Camelback
* Lightweight hiking boots or a sturdy pair of hiking shoes
* Wool or synthetic hiking socks- no cotton
* Synthetic wicking t-shirt
* Hiking shorts (quick-dry, lightweight)
* Rain Jacket (hooded, lightweight, waterproof, breathable)
* Hiking pants (convertible, quick-dry, lightweight)
* Midweight fleece or wool jacket or sweater
* Sunglasses and straps
* Sunscreen and lip balm
* Insect repellant
* Sun Hat or Ball cap
* Daypack to carry items above – can be rented, if needed.
* Park entrance pass and ID or money to purchase one – (You will not need to get an additional vehicle reservation ticket- learn more
* Camera (optional)
* Binoculars (optional)
* Trekking poles (optional and can be rented)
* Trail lunch
* Trail snacks or power bars

HIKING BOOTS??

Hiking Boots
Ankle support and/or protection from the elements are the two main reasons hikers choose a boot over a shoe. There are a variety of models on the market designed to meet the needs of different types of hikers; the challenge is finding the one that works best for your purposes.

PROS: Good ankle support, protective on rough terrain, good traction, durable, warm
CONS: Heavier than shoes, take time to break in so buy them in advance and start breaking them in, take longer to dry when wet, harder to pack

Hiking Shoes
As more and more casual hikers hit the trails, hiking shoes have become increasingly popular in the last decade or so. Given their close association with sneakers and their out-of-the-box comfort, they are an obvious choice for recreational hikers. There is also a rugged version with reinforced soles and toes known as trail runners.

PROS: Comfortable, light, nimble, quick-drying, don’t require breaking in, easy to pack

CONS: Little ankle support, less protective on a rough surfaces, less durable

Our co-host, Shilo has been blessed with hugs and kisses from our current family staying in the cabin. Every evening he argues with us to get to go visit “his” guest. Sometimes he wins. And THIS is why he is so argumentative! Oh the love!!! Lolol
