Bring a yoga mat or sleeping pad, or comfy chair since we will be sitting or laying down and staring up at the night sky. If you have binoculars, bring them too! Happy Anniversary Kane County! On January 16th, 1864 Kane County officially became a county in Utah. That’s right, prior to that date Kanab was in the heart of Washington County. Kane County was named for Col. Thomas Kane, who although not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, was a friend to them and helped to negotiate with the US government on their behalf. When Utah was granted a territorial government by Congress on September 9, 1850, President Fillmore asked Thomas Kane to be the first governor. He declined and recommended Brigham Young to be appointed, and as they say… the rest is history! Kane County Office of Tourism Kane County, Utah

Thanksgiving weekend we have the Christmas Light Parade and Festival. This is the best kickoff to the holiday season you will find anywhere in Southern Utah!
🎄We will have a short tree lighting ceremony and then shut down the highway and begin our unique Christmas Light Parade.
🎅🏻Schedule of Events at The Kanab Center, 20 N 100 E
6:15pm – Refreshments at the Kanab Center
6:45pm – Tree Lighting
7:00pm -Parade
7:30 pm – Lantern Launch begins (Kanab Center back parking lot)

All paper lanterns are 100% biodegradable and there is a local bounty on all lanterns found throughout town and the surrounding area to encourage a quick clean up. If you find lanterns and wish to turn them in for a $1 bounty, you can take them to the Kane County Office of Tourism Events (back door). Have you been to Jackson Flat Reservoir in Kanab, Utah? Around the reservoir is an easy 3.2 mile loop with a few lookout spurs. This trail is pet friendly and you’re sure to see some impressive wild life; ducks, geese, crows, eagles and many other variety of birds, frogs, lizards and snakes. The reservoir has trout, bass and sun fish.
