Kaumu o Kaleihoohie with its 5480 feet is the highest point of Kohala Volcano on Big Island, Hawaii.
It is a very special place with a very special vegetation.
It feels like you are on another planet when you walk around there.

These were parts of Stairway to Heaven on the Moanalua Saddle. Many people didn’t see these because they were not at the main staircase area, so it was always a special time to visit this area of the mountain.
Unfortunately, some of these stairs are already gone…

Back in the Ko’olau Mountains! After a 2 months trip in Europe, I was happy to step back into the green Ko’olaus. I missed these mountains! The smell, the colors, the mud, the views and the changing weather is all part of the experience.

Back in my home country roadtripping with my family.
Of course we had to climb a mountain even if we had to take the cable car to take us higher. My mom didn’t want to get to the flag, but we mad her hike up finally 😄 to the 1799 meters high Postavaru Peak.

Day 3 - Horcados Rojos Peak (2503m)

This exciting day took us to the highest point of our trip. We took the 1st cable car up to 1800 meters in the morning where our trail started. The weather was supposed to be very cold and foggy in the morning, but thankfully only the fog was present when we got to the top and the weather wasn’t that cold.
We had about 6 hours to make it up and back before the last tram down. The sun started to burn the fog off slowly and with our brisk walk, we quickly had to de-layer. The route was pretty rocky with not a lot of vegetation around. Made us feel like we were on a much higher elevation than 2000 meters. The closer we got to the top more snow showed up and we even had to cross a couple of places with snow.
The last part of the climb turned into a steep scramble-like ascent with some incredible views. We made it up to the top where enjoyed the views and the warm sunshine.
It was a very exciting day with some incredible views. the 11km hike with 800 meters of elevation gain only took us 4.5 hours so we even had time to get a hot coffee and some snacks at the small bar at the trailhead before we took the tram down

Day 2 - Las Cares Trail 🇪🇸

The next day, the weather changed and the sun was out on our hike. The Las Cares trail is considered one of the most picturesque trails in Spain. One of the highlights of the Las Cares Trail is the Cares Gorge, where the path follows the narrow and winding canyon carved by the river. The rock walls rise dramatically on both sides. The terrain is mostly well-maintained and relatively flat.
On the 2nd day, our plan was to hike about 7 miles in and out and enjoy the landscape, the sunshine, and the goats on the trail.
After the hike, we stopped for a cafe con leche (coffee with milk) and then headed to our next destination Potes Town.

There is a reason why the Haiku Stairs got the “nick name” Stairway to Heaven. As you start climbing the stairs from the bottom, slowly you enter the cloud cover and in minutes you are in whiteout conditions. Just like walking in 😇 Heaven.

Today I had the pleasure to guide Jenn up Olomana Trail. Jenn Drummond was the first woman on earth to climb the Seven Second Summits😳. Those summits are actually harder to 🧗‍♀️climb than the highest ones and they require more technicla skills too.
But she is not just a good climber, she is a very nice person to talk stories with, she is a mother of 7 kiddos and an entrepreneur who makes things happen.

Today I had a pleasure to guide Takeshi who is 80 years old and he wanted to climb Olomana as his 1st peak in Hawaii! Well, he did…and all 3 peaks! Amazing how strong he is at 80. I want to be like him at that age!💪🏼 He was even climbing without ropes some sections in his approach shoe, and he loved it. To do a 4 hour roundtrip from the parking to 3rd peak and back at this age, is just AMAZING!
These are the days when I love my job and get even more inspired to live a healthy, active lifestyle. He should be a role model for the young generation and not just.
Way to go Tak, I hope to see you again for another climb🤙🏻

Ahiki lit by the Divine Light.
When I hike Olomana Trail I always take pictures if Ahiki (the 3rd peak). It is not just one of my favorite mountain peaks on Oahu bit it is the most photogenic mountain too in my opinion.
This might be my favorite shot yet. On top of that I took this with my Iphone 15 Pro! Crazy how phone cameras are evolving.
