Another race in the books!
Two days before my birthday, I surprised myself with an 8th place overall and 2nd place in my age group. This 28 miler race with kver 6000 feet of elevation gain always kicks my a**, but this time I was able to crush it under 6 hours, so I was super happy.
The best thing about the race is the trail running community, the organizers and volunteers. They make sure you have an amazing race, no matter what place you get in. If you never ran a HURT race before I highly suggest you do so you understand what I’m talking about.

Lot of times in life we like to choose the easy path because it feels safe and comfortable. However, sometimes you might want to take the rough path, choose something that makes you feel uncomfortable, makes you suffer.
Why? Because next time when you are back on the same rough path, you will know what to expect and even if you will feel uncomfortable it will feel better than last time.
I thought that is true to hiking too, but after this trip to Kalena I might reconsider my thoughts 😄 I am used to bushwhacking but this time the overgrowth on the Waianae Sunmit Trail and surrounding ridges were pretty bad. I was dropping sweat every second I climbed. Even if I knew what to expect it felt worst than other times even if the pictures doesn’t show that.
Happy to have friends k**e and to join me in some of these gnarly outings.

Here is another video, but this time about trail running. I know this is not the typicla videos I shoot, but I was just curious how you guys will like it.

I tried to keep up the quality, however I can not run with a big camera so I used the DJI Acton 5 Pro to record this. It is great for stabilizing the running shots, small enough to carry and the video quality is pretty good too.

For 10 years, the Ko’olaus are my backyard on the Windward Side of O’ahu. In 10 years I still never get tired of looking at them, hiking or climbing them.
It is a special place and it will always be special!

Chasing light when there is none. I still found some 😄
When the cloud blanket covers the Ko’olau Mountains it barely lets any light oassing through. However, there is always a small “puka” when the lights sneak through.
The moonrise was quite a beautiful moment too. The moon was rising between the Mokulua Islands looked pretty amazing.

Backpacking in the Ko’olau Mountains is an experience on it’s own. You never know what to expect, so better expect the unexpected. You might start out on a beautiful sunnny day but by the time you are on the top you are in gree, misty and rainy environment. If you are lucky, you might get some beautiful lights up there.
It was great catching up with my thru-hiker friends and who just returned from the Appalachian trail.
