Over the past decade, hiking 🥾and running 🏃🏻 in these mountains ⛰️have been my teachers. They’ve shown me how to appreciate nature, respect the mountains, and find joy in every day, rain or shine.
But, they’ve also taught me that the mountains can be dangerous. Being fully present, safe, and prepared is crucial, even for experienced hikers.
Never let your guard down and always expect the unexpected! 🤙🏻

The first time I climbed this ridge was with my friends Scott and Dale. It was years ago, but I remember how relentless the climb was. For some reason, I loved it, and it became my favorite windward ridge to climb on Oahu. It is one of the steepest, if not the steepest, ridges with a "trail".
It has everything, including a narrow ridgeline, great views, and some fun scrambling. The drone footage will give you a different perspective on the trail.

Before the storm. Today it was a great morning to capture some shots of Mānana (Rabbit) and Kāohikaipu Island (Black Rock)by Makapu’u. I like to see different views from different angles of this beautiful area. Having that winter golden hour helps bringing out some of the colors of the land and ocean.
Hawaii has some amazing landscapes what we take grnated when we live here. Sometimes we jist have to get out and try to capture the same everyday sights with a different approach.

Experiencing the real Hawaii wilderness up above 4000 feet of elevation is just amazing! Being able to climb up high through rugged terrain and navigate is a necessary skill for this type of exploration.

I was lucky to capture some beautiful aerial shots this past weekend in the West Maui Mountains (Mauna Kahālāwai). You can see Iao valley from the top, some high peaks like Halepohaku, Lihau, Kapilau Ridge and Kukui. You can even spot behind the clouds Haleakala.

I feel like these mountains are always in the shadow of Haleakala, so they do not get much attention. Maybe better this way? The truth is, there are limited hiking routes or none to these mountains peaks.

Back on some gnarly climbs to reach the summit of Lanihuli. It was great catching up with who is back in Hawaii for a bit. Usually this route can get very neeve wrecking with all the crumbly, narrow ridgeline, but today felt like a nice social outing.

Stairway to Hell contrary to the more famous Stairway to Heaven is in actual really bad shape. The stairs are corroded, rusted, they are crumbling almost under your feet.
However, I think the journey to these stairs is beautiful. The views of towering Ko”olau peaks, the views of the Leeward and Windward side from the top of the mountain is just breathtaking. It is a true experience!
