As Houstonians and surrounding areas recover from Hurricane Beryl, please remember these crucial safety tips to protect your family from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning:

1. **Never use a generator indoors** – This includes garages, basements, and crawl spaces, even if doors and windows are open. If you must, remember VENTILATION IS KEY!

2. **Keep it outside** – Place generators at least 20 feet away from your home. Ensure the exhaust is directed away from doors, windows, and vents.

3. **Install CO detectors** – Use battery-operated or battery-backup CO detectors in your home, especially near sleeping areas.

4. **Regularly check the generator** – Make sure your generator is in good working condition and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

5. **Ventilation is key** – Ensure proper ventilation to avoid CO buildup.
