Holbox screams boho. As a true barefoot community with zero paved roads, it actually reminds me of one of our favorite surfing areas in Costa Rica (minus the surf 🌊)

You won’t be finding many modern, clean white lines in Holbox. In fact, you need to be okay with feeling sandy, even if sitting down for a bougie dinner. Restaurant and hotel spaces are 👌when it comes to the island vibes though, and I’m totally here for it.

If you prefer modern, contemporary, air conditioned spaces, Holbox is not for you.

First of all, Holbox is a barefoot island. Modern infrastructure and endless activities are not this destinations strong suit. Be prepared to come here to relax.

Spending a week on the island did allow us to do a deeper dive into available activities, but overall, it’s a very chill destination.

I will mention that some activities are seasonal (like swimming with whale sharks and flamingo viewing). This only occurs during the summer months.

The area does boast a large nature preserve on the lagoon side, so be prepared to see many species of birds, lizards and even gators! Fishing is a big draw too. If you find a good outfit, they’ll prepare fresh ceviche with the fish you caught! The area has a couple of islands that can also be reached by boat. At low tide, you must to visit the sand bars, but it does take some effort to get there. The island is small, and you can bike most of it, so renting bikes is fun for active travelers. There are also bioluminescence tours, but plan those around a new moon.

At the end of the day, Holbox is a beach destination and a fantastic place for swimming. Be prepared to spend hours relaxing if you plan to visit!

What is ETIAS? ETIAS is not a visa. The purpose of ETIAS is to enhance security by screening travelers before they arrive in the Schengen Area, allowing authorities to identify potential risks sooner.

DON’T WAIT!

Starting in May, ALL travelers must have a real ID to board any domestic flight with the United States. If you haven’t updated your drivers license yet, now is the time! A current US passport is also a valid form of identification for flying domestically.

Coming up for air.

The last couple weeks have been insane! Thank you to everyone for all your new inquiries and requests. It’s humbling to be able to plan your dream trips.

This is by far our busiest time of year for new trip requests. If you want to travel the first half of this year, be sure to schedule and consultation with me ASAP! My waitlist is growing!

📣 TRAVEL UPDATE! Please share these new requirements with anyone traveling to Europe in 2025.

🇬🇧 If you are visiting the UK, you will need to obtain an ETA (electronic travel authorization) starting January 8th.

✏️Here’s what you need to know about the ETA:
 •The ETA will be required for all U.S. citizens traveling to the UK or transiting through it starting January 8, 2025.
 •The ETA costs £10, and the application is done online. It can take around 3 days or so for processing, so don’t want until the last minute.  
•IMPORTANT: you must apply for an ETA, even if you are transiting through the UK on a layover. Be sure to check your flight schedule to Europe this year!
 •The ETA is valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever is sooner.

The sun is setting on 2024 and it’s bittersweet. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to plan some amazing trips this year. I feel like 2024 was the year of family travel!

✨M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S✨

Two things I accomplished this year:
1️⃣Getting family photos taken
2️⃣Sending out holiday cards for the first time in years

My TRAVEL TIP for the year - get professional family photos on vacation!

We don’t do them every trip, but we should! It’s a great way to store those vacation memories (because let’s face it, family trips are of the kids and none of mom/dad). Plus, you’re even more likely to turn them into prints or artwork when having a unique setting. Yes, it’s an investment, but we’ve always paid very similar to what we pay at home for a local photographer.

I also love when we get to have FUN during a photo shoot. Proper photos are great too, but my favorites usually end up being the natural or candid shots.

Oh St Barthelemy, you had me at hello 😍

I now understand why this island is nicknamed Billionaires Island. It’s the cleanest Caribbean island I’ve ever set foot on. With zero poverty, gorgeous beaches, spectacular food, and fantastic shopping, it feels as if you’re instantly transported to the French Riviera.

We had to physically drag ourselves off this island. If only we could afford to stay longer. If a visit to St Barths in in your future, be sure to budget accordingly. This gem has the highest prices I’ve seen in the Caribbean, but is it worth it…my vote is yes!

☀️HOW TO GET TO HOLBOX☀️ … If you have the time and patience, here’s how you get to this fantastic island! … We opted for a private driver from Cancun to Chiquila and then the ferry, but you can also pay for a small charter plane that will go straight to Holbox’s air strip. The cost is significantly more to fly, and sensitive to luggage restrictions. … From landing in Cancun to your Holbox hotel, this process can take 4-5 hours.
