Aptly named Cliff House, this little cliffside building overlooking Namalu Bay was originally built in 1940 as a facility for the managers of the historic Honolua pineapple plantation. Now completely renovated and managed by the Montage Kapalua, it is a venue used for private events, and also offers a beautiful sunset Champaign Hale to guests and visitors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. As reference, just to the left is Kapalua Bay, and to the right are the Kapalua Bay Villas. 😊

Most people are probably aware by now the heart which used to be in the lava rock by the Nakalele Blow Hole has been long gone for some years now (image 1 taken back in 2010), but do you know there is another heart shaped hole in the lava cliffs of the Kapalua Coastal Trail? Next time you're on the trail heading south from Ironwood's beach, look towards the end of the point and you'll spot it.

This bitter sweet photo was taken from Baby Beach last year, July, 4, 2023. It was the most memorable 4th we ever had together, standing in waist-deep water, watching the fireworks shot from a barge outside of Lahaina Harbor. I often think about this night, and wonder how many people who were there that night lost their life, their home or someone they loved. To better times. Happy 4th of July!

You never know what you’ll find hiking on Maui, like this horned Jackson’s Chameleon. We found this guy on the Kahakapao Trail in the Makawao Forest Reserve. This well maintained 5.75 mile upcountry trail loop starts at 4000’ above sea level and has a 975’ elevation gain. The trail itself is well marked and easy to follow. It’s a popular spot, so you’ll likely encounter other hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. However, we only came upon a couple of bikers and other hikers during our late afternoon hike. The trailhead can be found about 2 miles east of Makawao Town, so after our hike we enjoyed a fantastic dinner . Yum!!!
