Most people are probably aware by now the heart which used to be in the lava rock by the Nakalele Blow Hole has been long gone for some years now (image 1 taken back in 2010), but do you know there is another heart shaped hole in the lava cliffs of the Kapalua Coastal Trail? Next time you're on the trail heading south from Ironwood's beach, look towards the end of the point and you'll spot it.

This bitter sweet photo was taken from Baby Beach last year, July, 4, 2023. It was the most memorable 4th we ever had together, standing in waist-deep water, watching the fireworks shot from a barge outside of Lahaina Harbor. I often think about this night, and wonder how many people who were there that night lost their life, their home or someone they loved. To better times. Happy 4th of July!

You never know what youâll find hiking on Maui, like this horned Jacksonâs Chameleon. We found this guy on the Kahakapao Trail in the Makawao Forest Reserve. This well maintained 5.75 mile upcountry trail loop starts at 4000â above sea level and has a 975â elevation gain. The trail itself is well marked and easy to follow. Itâs a popular spot, so youâll likely encounter other hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. However, we only came upon a couple of bikers and other hikers during our late afternoon hike. The trailhead can be found about 2 miles east of Makawao Town, so after our hike we enjoyed a fantastic dinner . Yum!!!

My favorite morning hike on Maui is up to the duck pond on the old Village Course Trails in Kapalua. Have you discovered this hike? You hike on the decommissioned Village Golf Course cart paths up through the old golf course, which has been since completely overgrown by tropical vegetation. Starting from our Kapalua Bay Villas condo, itâs about five miles and 1000ft elevation gain round trip. You can cut quite a bit of distance and elevation gain off my hike by parking at the Kapalua Bay Course clubhouse, where youâll also find a map of the trail just inside the entry doors. #hikemaui #hikingtrail #kapaluagolf #kapalua #kapaluavillagecourse #mauihiking
