Video I took today in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The lava fountain was in the top 3% of the lava we have seen, to put it into perspective.

Our friend Scott of Apua Hawaii Tours was fortunate enough to get a Glimpse inside the Keck Observatory up Mauna Kea.

The Kilauea Eruption that started 12/23/24 resumed early this morning with Episode #6. We will have to wait and see how long this will last.

Episode 5 has started of the Dec 23rd Eruption of the Kilauea Volcano.

Phase 5 of the Kīlauea eruption that began 12/23/24 has resumed. Park staff and visitors watched as steady lava spatter reappeared Wednesday afternoon around 3 p.m. in Halemaʻumaʻu crater from the north vent. Eruption conditions can change at any time.

USGS Volcanoes Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that small lava dome fountains in the north vent are feeding short lava flows in the southwest part of the caldera. Volcanic gas emissions are elevated compared to during the eruptive pause. HVO scientists estimated the eruption would resume sometime this week 🙌

Safe viewing tips for visitors:

• Check the eruption viewing webpage for safety tips, air quality, where to watch, web cams and more. https://www.nps.gov/havo/planyourvisit/eruption-viewing.htm

• Expect crowds. Parking will be full at popular areas. The park is open 24 hours a day. Bring a flashlight if you visit when it’s dark.

• Stay on trail! Stay out of closed areas. Avoid cliff edges and other hazardous terrain. Keep your children near you at all times.

• Do not disturb nēnē. Native geese are often seen in parking lots and near roads. Drive cautiously, never feed them and keep a distance of at least 60 feet (4 car lengths).

• Drive safely. Drive the speed limit, heed park rangers and traffic control workers, and stay attentive.

Aloha, we had some malware on our website, so it is temporarily down while we change servers. Email and Facebook still work. Since we are sold out until January 2, it is a good time to upgrade servers. Mahalo!

As a legal, insured, and permitted tour company we work with our National Park partners to ensure trails are safe, report illegal guides, and more. While submitting our annual paperwork this week, we found a very busy trail that must be corrected in All Trails and Google. The wrong information put people on a busy, narrow road rather than following the trail from the trailhead. The Park did not know these digital guides were wrong and is now working to correct them. Thank you, Park Ranger Dan!

You CAN leave the Kilauea Iki parking lot and get to Nahuku. I had to map it this morning and submit it to the NPS. All Trails and Google told us we were off course. I'm unsure how random things like this become incorrect, but thankfully, we can fix this.

More snow in Hawaii than New York? Why, yes!! It was a very chilly 🥶 45 degrees this morning at the summit of Kilauea 🌋. We are all huddled under heavy blankets. This article failed to mention Mauna Kea’s sister Mauna Loa, which stands at an impressive 13,680 ft and also gets snow ⛄️.

Several inches of snow fell on Hawaii's tallest peaks in late October, but New York City hasn't seen any yet.
