Keizer Chamber of Commerce....Roots!

The first,organized, business group in Keizer was the Keizer Commercial Club, whose main achievement was the publishing of the Keizer News. ‘By the people of Keizer’ was its motto.

The second business group, the Keizer Merchants Association (KMA), was formed in 1956, but it was not until September 1958 that it was formalized with election of officers. The members sought a closer organization due to the problems that growth in Keizer brought. Robert Stutzman was the first president of the KMA.

After several attempts, voters in Keizer approved incorporating the community as a city in November 1982. By 1987 the city designated itself the Iris Capital of the World.

Also in 1987 the Keizer Merchants Association voted to become a Chamber of Commerce. Chamber took on the job of organizer of the Keizer Days festival and renamed it the Keizer Iris Festival. In the ensuing decades the Chamber’s office has moved a number of times and is currently in a modern building facing River Road in downtown Keizer.
