Pretty easy catching sockeye right now. But when was the last time you were able to take a pic of the elusive one eye birch leaf fish head! Yeah!!!! .

WTF otherwise known to many as EF2. Can’t wait for the great days and long night of July when this place really shines. Fishing has been very good so far this June. Excellent halibut, a great Kasilof run and one of the busiest and fishiest starts on the Kenai in a long time. Missing our previous 2021 guests already but looking forward to our new guests this summer and saying good buy to last year

Yesterday was one I will not soon forget. 3 am wake up call, 6 hr drive up, 7 hrs on the wheeler hunting, 6 hrs back home and Miss Tait punches her first big game tag catching her first Alaskan Caribou. While it didn’t end up the way my dreams had forecasted during the mostly sleepless night prior, we did give ourselves a golden opportunity to pose with a giant. With a short window we made a spur of the moment decision around 8pm the night before. Loaded gear and made the charge. We positioned ourselves amoung a heard of around a 1,000 animals spread out across the vast valley. Made a plan and an attempt on the bulk of the heard in a small river drainage that offered great cover for a stalk and the ability to survey the herd before making a shot, only to be spoiled by circumstances out of our control. From the get go we noticed a lone animal on the side of the ridge to our south, so while discussing plan B, instead of being upset with what had unfolded before us, and all the while knowing we had limited time as the storm approached, she decided to give this one a go. We made a long steep climb, set up in position and made a great off hand shot. She jumped right in to help with the work and before we knew it we were back on the trail for a long 20+ mile ride out of valley. None of which wouldn’t be possible without great friends like Ronnie Zahacefski. She had a breakout summer this year in the eyes of someone who loves the outdoors, really can’t wait to see what she does next!!
