Yesterday, On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Fr. Marlo Abad, spoke of its history. The Immaculate Conception is the belief that the Virgin Mary was free of original sin from the moment of her conception. It is one of the four Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church. It was debated by medieval theologians. In 1854, Pope Pius IX in the papal declaration. He declared Mary is free from original sin. The Council of Trent, (1545 and 1563) previously affirmed her freedom from personal sin.
In 1858, in a very small town in the French Pyrenes, Bernadette, an uneducated girl, say a lady in a vision 18 times. The Lady was not seen by others. She told Bernadette to was in the waters of the spring but they were no waters. The next day water started flowing and is still flowing today. On the feast of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary on March 25th 1858, the Lady proclaimed her identity. she said ‘I am the Immaculate Conception’. Bernadette was unaware of the Pope's declaration a few years earlier.
