What a Reel Day at the Waikine Wahine!
The village buzzed with excitement this past weekend as the 22nd annual Milolii Waikine Wahine Tournament brought together some of the fiercest female anglers from the area!
These ladies battled it out on the water, showcasing their skills and knowledge of Hawaiian fishing grounds. The camaraderie and competitive spirit were truly inspiring. Hand reels only, wahines only on the rods. It's a workout for sure.
Our parters Team Courtney and Justin won big, with biggest fish and biggest ahi to take home some wonderful prizes and a share of the pot. Big mahalos to my wahine friend Orchid for helping me and Team SZ reel in the Ono side pot. We ended up with four nice ones in the box including a double up.

Little bit of a personal post: Stormi here. Team SZ is pumped for the season and are ready to make your Alaska Strike Zone Sportfishing fishing charters experience amazing. Selling faster than usual so don't wait.
Thing is I've always been a little fishy. Think I'm about 4 here, elbows deep in steelhead guts at my grandma's kitchen sink. My dad used to take me down to the rivers in Oregon and we would cast and fish and find snagged up gear and usually bring home a couple for dinner. He had special access to all the good holes along the Wilson and Trask Rivers from the farmers along the banks.
In Alaska we fished for food and fun too. I caught this guy off the shelf on the west side of Zarembo with my Dad. Thought I would post it for you know, the halibut. 🐟🎣💙. POW was excellent for some whopper kings, as many coho as you could fit on the boat, and the best halibut were just up off the north shelf. I know more ways to eat salmon than you can imagine, and yet I love it every day. That's the Norweigan genes I guess but I could cheerfully eat wild Alaska fish every day and often do.
It must be the Alaskan girl in me but every spring I have a strong urge to get the boat ready to go fishing . I crave the smell of boat gas, my cut down xtra-tuffs, the consultation of the tide book, and the lure of secret fishing holes. A picnic of cold seamart fried chicken, beer, and snickers. The hum of the engine as you bounce through the chop, the slow pace of the trawl, the sparkle of leaders and lures and the most beautiful words ever "Fish on !!!!!"
On the opposite side of Mother Pacific, there is nothing like the Ono run at sunrise, all the colors of sky and sea and land magnified as God intended. The village is the oldest existing fishing village on Hawaii and still lives by a very unique culture. To be accepted onto their onaha is an amazing blessing. The day we caught the Grander was one of the craziest scariest most awesome days so far, and the best part was donating it to the village so that everyone could share in the victory.
Now, I still get excited over my captains daily reports and photos, they are absolutely slaying it in the 99901 and it shows in our reviews and the smiles on our guests faces. Live the life you love, love the life you live.

Luke Stamm is the owner and operator of Strike Zone Sportfishing. He is a second generation charter boat operator and has spent his entire life in Ketchikan. He started working in the charter industry as a deckhand at the age of 9 for his father, Lewis. He has over 24 years experience as a USCG licensed Captain and has over 35 years of experience fishing the pristine waters surrounding Ketchikan, Alaska. With his passion for sport fishing and sharing it with others, he has grown Alaska Strike Zone Sportsfishing into one of Ketchikan’s premier charter services.
