Key West winter fishing report

Winter in Key West fishing. A fishing report for one of our coldest winters in the last 10 years. The cooler weather has turned on many of the fish we have here

Another wind shift and cool down here in Key West today. Winds clocking back around to the North bringing temps back to the mid sixties. Sunday Monday and Tuesday look to be amazing as temps roll back up to 73. We would avoid being offshore on Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.. Reach out to us for the extended forecast.,.

Monday is a Full Moon a wahoo moon maybe? We will see.. looks like a good chance at those speedsters out side the reef. Tunas took a break but will be back shortly.. there are always mahi in our forecast if the conditions are right.. Sails are still chasing baits up on the reef and Kingfish are ruling the deep reef line.
Marlin are the surprise of the month with a few sightings and a couple hooked with one landed in the fleet..

So far it looks like a better than usual January for Key West deep sea fishing....

As the Christmas season steams along here in Key West folks are getting out to do some fishing.
Backcountry fishing has been good with Trout, Spanish Mackerel's and pompano. On the flats the permit are in the shallows with our winter cast of barracuda's ready to pounce on a top water... Surprisingly there are still some tarpon laying around..
Offshore deep sea fishing we have been getting into the kingfish pretty steady with cero mackerel tunas and some sailfish as well. As the East winds and warmer air temps come around we expect the Mahi bite may improve throughout the weekend with some amazing weather the start of next week and the start of the new year..

Northerly winds prevail today 15-20 knots and cooler with temps in the low 70s. Saifish bite continues to be strong in the shallow reefs. Some mahi and tunas being caught offshore, kingfish have started to show up.
Trout out in the backcountry with jacks chasing the mullet and Spanish Mackerel cleaning up the pieces some pompano around..
Yellowtails on the reef under the ballyhoo with a strong mutton snapper Bite from the deep reef to the shallow reefs.. We are still waiting for the larger schools of ballyhoo to show up on the reef.. Maybe the cooler weather will help..
Winds picking up on Monday - Wednesday. Backcountry fishing will be good, offshore might be "Sporty"
