Marking the end of 2023 and arrival of 2024, female impersonator Christopher Peterson is lowered in a giant reproduction of a high-heel shoe from the balcony of the Bourbon St. Pub complex down to Duval Street. The “Red Shoe Drop” has been a Key West New Year's Eve tradition for more than a quarter century; Peterson stepped into the larger-than-life pump for the first time this year after the retirement of celebrated drag queen “Sushi” following her 25th “drop” last year. The celebration was one of multiple Key West styled takeoffs on New York City’s annual Times Square event and marks the conclusion of Key West Holiday Fest, an island-wide array of holiday festivities presented in part by the Lodging Association of the Florida Keys and Key West and the Monroe County Tourist Development Council.
