Key West Oasis (KWO) is a private two bedroom/two bath rental house ideally located in charming Old Town, Key West, Florida, close to Duval street, great restaurants, bars and the beach (WiFi, AC, HBO). This 1906 "cigar maker's cottage" has been newly renovated into a stylish Key West retreat. The house features an open floor plan with original Dade County pine walls and ceilings. The main house h

as hard wood flooring throughout and houses the master suite, a fully equipped gourmet kitchen and the living and dining area. Inside the house are all the comforts of home, with every room providing its own unique feel. Three sets of French doors lead from the living and dining area onto your own private lanai and pool area. Bask in the sun and listen to the tranquil sounds of falling water, which is the backdrop of the private heated pool. Tropical plants and flowers are abundant and offer complete privacy for guests. The back gardens and pool area were designed to create a calming effect, which pervades the mind, body and spirit. The detached cottage offers a 2nd bedroom and bath with a private open-air shower – what better way to enjoy your morning shower than amidst flowering bougainvillea trees! The cottage also features 20 ft vaulted ceilings and two sets of French doors which open to the garden and pool area. Guests tell us they love having the detached cottage, as it offers couples traveling together much more privacy.

: Sister Gabriel had survived three major hurricanes since her arrival in Key West on August 25, 1897. Because of the devastation she had witnessed, her deep desire to keep Key West safe from future storms generated her passion to build the Grotto to seek protection from Our Blessed Mother Mary.

Tradition tells us that she is said to have remarked that as long as the Grotto stood, “Key West would never experience the full brunt of a hurricane.” And as all residents can attest, there has not been a severe storm on the island since the er****on of the Grotto in 1922.

Ernest Hemingway's home in Key West | The house was one of the first on the island with indoor plumbing and the first on the island to have an upstairs bathroom with running water. Also the first on the island to have an in-ground swimming pool. His wife, Pauline, spent $20,000 ($367,519.00 in 2020 money) to have the pool installed while Ernest was gone covering the Spanish Civil War as a correspondent. He was not pleased at the price when he returned and said, "Well, you might as well have my last cent," before tossing a penny into the pool. This penny is embedded in concrete today near the pool.
