Muttons in the shallows. Winter is a great time for us here at Dream Catchers. The mutton snapper come right up in to the shallows and feed in the cooler water temps. We use artificial lures for them, some lipped plugs and some jigs and occasionally bait when needed. depths range from 4- 12 ft and hold fish on the regular. We also catch the occasional large lane snappers, dog snappers, yellowtail snappers and grouper. We are truly blessed with an amazing fishery here in Key West and love to share it with others..

Our weather is absolutely perfect today and our winter time cast of characters are here in Key West showing our backcountry fishing charter folks a great time on the water just 15 minutes from our dock. Trout, Pompano, Spanish mackerel, big barracudas on the flats with permit.. What's really cool is there are still shots to be had at juvenile tarpon too. We love this time of the year when fishing is fun and most of the time.. Easy.. A great time for groups up to 6 per boat.

Yesterday's monster yellow jack attack on the shallow reef. Ryan was fishing with Capt. Rob on board the Too Intense our 36 ft Yellowfin out on the reefs West of Key West using artificial lures and light tackle to get this beast to hit. He was 18lbs on the Boga Grip.. Lots of yellowtail on the reef as well.
Yellowjacks are tasty according to some. More notably they are some of the strongest fighting fish ever for their size.
Hoping this next storm leaves us un-damaged.. We have some availability for quality reef fishing after the 23rd with a couple spots open Thanks Giving weekend.

Maintenance is everything. This Mercury L6 400 outboard has served us for over 2 years and not a tick wrong.
What's our secret?
Flush after use this makes sure there is no salt water hanging out in the motor, especially the after cooler for the super charger.
Oil Chages every 100 hours.. With Mercury oil, filters, and gaskets.
Changing the Thermostat on this motor is key.. It will help with fuel economy.
We do spark plugs every other oil change.. and water impellers every 300 hours.

For halloween this morning we are posting photos of spiders.. This is the "Spider" version of our 24 ft yellowfin classic bay boats. Capt. Herbie is getting ready for his Halloween adventure this morning.
We call this boat the "Spider" for the 8 legs that it has to lift the console and leaning post to an elevated height. This is a classic deck style from Yellowfin and a fantastic boat for better viewing while underway without the tower.
Powered by the 300 R From Mercury Racing this sled gets 4 Miles per gallon at 40 and has a top end of well over 60.

Our family had an awesome half day shark fishing trip with Capt. Abby. I can’t recommend these folks enough. Very professional. Highly competent, skilled, and prepared anglers. Great with kids. Very clean and comfortable boat. We had tons of action catching bait (multiple barracudas on lures) and sharks. We boated two lemon sharks and one nurse shark and went 4 for 7 overall. It was a very fun and memorable day and Captain Abby was amazing with our kids (7 and 9)! 10/10!

An amazing Honeymoon trip! Not to sound cliché but, dreams literally came true during our trip with Abby. She made our trip fun, very successful and knowledgeable not only with fishing and the species but, Key West in general. While also focusing on the safety of ourselves and the marine life. Our main adventure my husband Mattheu and I wanted for our trip to Key West was to fish. He has fished the ocean various other locations and it has been a dream of mine to be able to. He booked us a trip with Dream Catchers Charter after we decided to take our honeymoon in Key West. We read and were told by some of our friends that September is the "off season" and we probably wouldn't catch anything. Having that in mind and knowing how fishing can be in general we had no expectations. I told Matt the morning of I was just excited it was actually happening and the catch would be a bonus. Let me tell you we proved "off season" wrong and caught and released multiple tarpons, various other species & even catch of the day Matt caught one of his bucket list fish a barracuda. During our trip we were able to see shark, turtles, jelly fish, sky filled with a rainbow, storm clouds and sunshine! Definitely book the trip it's a must experience and request Abby if possible!

We had a great experience celebrating my dad’s retirement! The weather wasn’t ideal but Capt Rob was amazing and kept us out of the storms and got us as much fishing time as possible. Happy Monday everyone… Often, in September our captains take some time off to get a break from the day to day on the water that it takes to run Dream Catcher CharteRs.
Capt. Abi went to Maryland to get her crab on… Showing that she can not only put a tarpon along side the boat here in Key West but also catch some tasty critters for some good eats Up on the Eastern Seaboard. She said she “dipped” every one of these crabs to hit limit. Then she said something about a “Feast”..
Back to Work this week as we ramp Things back up here at Dream Catchers.
