Spring time is a great time to get some food fish here off Key West. We have been hammering the snappers lately on our reef fishing trips. These folks and their friend were on a "Cast and Catch" mission using all artificial lures "no bait no chum" to smash this 3 person bag limit of snappers on board our 36 ft Yellowfin center console "Too Intense".
Many folks ask us what we use for lures.. Come out and fish with us and find out.. We are happy to share our knowledge... Through the many years we have figured a few things out.. 😉

Getting gear up early in the morning today here at Dream Catcher Charters in Key West for a nice long trip to the Dry Tortugas. Our Yellowfin 36 center console The "Too Intense" powered by triple Mercury Racing 300Rs is always ready to rumble.
Capt. Rob is at the helm today for the adventure. Its pretty rare that we get this kind of weather in the first week of March.. Blessed to have it, its going to be a fantastic day!
Trips to the Dry Tortugas from our dock at Sunset Marina take about 1 hour and 40 minutes on a nice day. We have a National Parks permit to fish with a charter inside the boundaries. The opportunities are endless.

Seems winter might be over here in Key West.... as our tarpon have shown up early and they are eating pretty well.. Here is Capt. Herbie of Dream Catcher Charters with one of the many silver kings he put his anglers on.. The boat he uses is the Yellowfin 24 Ft Bay boat "Spider" version powered by Mercury Racing 300R.
We are also seeing bonefish on the flats indicating some confidence, at least by the fish, that it will continue to be warm.
We have seen this before.. A warm late February and early March that walks us into a cold April and early May. Time will tell.
Till then we will take the great tarpon fishing here in Key West.

Cobia are not hard to find this time of the year but everyone knows that.. SO.... you need to have some spots that if none but maybe few know about from years of fishing out of Key West.. Nothing like having your pick of them right near the back of the boat.. Some of these spots are a good run from Key West but well worth it when the opportunity to do battle with one of these dudes on light tackle spin fishing gear...
Winter is the best time for cobia fishing here in Key West and a good cold winter is awesome!! We use artificial lures, live bait and some jigs to coax them up and get them to eat. Keen eyes and Patience pays for the larger (smarter) ones like the bruiser shown here that was caught on board the "Too Intense" our 36ft Yellowfin center console fishing with Capt. Steven. A good fish like this will feed a good size group of people as Cobia have one of the best yields of any saltwater fish.
As long as it's chilly we will be in the cobia and other fun species that we fish for out that way West of Key West..

Dry Tortugas Fort Jefferson National Park seminar for CUA Permit holders held in Key West from the folks that have boots on the ground in management of this natural resource. This was an all day event that explained many things about the National Park and how it operates. see we (as permit holders) can provide services for our clients to this incredible place on the daily. Range Curtis presented a good bit of history that was new to us including some new discoveries.
From our crew here at Dream Catcher Charters Capt. Steven Lamp Key West Fishing Guide and Island Genn attended. We have held a CUA permit for over 15 years with allows us to take our fishing charters inside the Boundaries of the National Park.
We use our 36ft Yellowfin Center console for these day trips.
We would like to thank the National Park service for putting on a pretty good presentation.

Muttons in the shallows. Winter is a great time for us here at Dream Catchers. The mutton snapper come right up in to the shallows and feed in the cooler water temps. We use artificial lures for them, some lipped plugs and some jigs and occasionally bait when needed. depths range from 4- 12 ft and hold fish on the regular. We also catch the occasional large lane snappers, dog snappers, yellowtail snappers and grouper. We are truly blessed with an amazing fishery here in Key West and love to share it with others..
