We Saved the Best for Last in the Galapagos! 🏝️🐧

Our final stop in the Galapagos, Isabela Island, brought unexpected challenges and unforgettable memories! 🌊✨

When we arrived, we quickly realized we were unprepared for a cash-only island. With just $40 between the three of us, no debit cards, and no PINs for our credit cards, we had to get creative. 💳❌ Thankfully, the kindness of locals helped us navigate through the chaos, and we managed to book a snorkeling tour AND secure the cash we desperately needed to get back to Santa Cruz.

But the stress was worth it! Isabela Island turned out to be the highlight of our Galapagos journey. From snorkeling with sea turtles 🐢, iguanas 🦎, eagle rays 🐟, and even a penguin 🐧, to enjoying the laid-back vibes of dirt roads and beach bars 🌅—this island had it all.

Oh, and did I mention the crab that somehow found its way into my swimsuit? 🦀😂

🌊🌍 Crossing the Equator Celebration on the Villa Vie Odyssey! 🌍🌊

Today, we embraced a cherished maritime tradition aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey with our very own Crossing the Equator Ceremony! 🎉

For us Pollywogs—those crossing the equator for the first time—it was a day of initiation as we officially joined the ranks of the Shellbacks, those who’ve previously sailed across this iconic line. The ceremony was full of laughter, fun, and a bit of daring us Pollywogs kissed the fish 🐟 and were anointed with water 💦 in the spirit of maritime tradition.

Our amazing Captain Val paid tribute to Neptune himself, ensuring the Villa Vie Odyssey was granted safe passage across the equator. 🛳️✨ It was an unforgettable experience filled with camaraderie, celebration, and the magic of life at sea.

Seeing the Panama Canal Locks from the Ground: A New Perspective

Krista and I had the chance to visit the iconic Panama Canal locks 🌎⚓—this time from the ground instead of sailing through them on the ship. Since she missed out on the canal transit with me, we decided to explore it together—and it didn’t disappoint!

Watching a massive cargo ship 🚢 pass through the locks up close was absolutely mesmerizing. Seeing the intricate mechanics of the gates opening, the water levels rising and falling 🌊, and the ship being guided through was a fascinating experience, even after having gone through it on a vessel. From the ground, you really get a sense of the scale and precision involved in this incredible operation.

One of the highlights of our visit was the IMAX movie 🎥 about the Panama Canal. It was so informative, sharing the history, challenges, and triumphs of building one of the world’s most important waterways. It added a whole new layer of appreciation for what we were witnessing.

Experiencing the locks from this perspective gave me a deeper understanding of the canal’s complexity 🛠️. Whether you sail through it or see it from the ground, the Panama Canal is a marvel that leaves a lasting impression. I’m so glad Krista and I got to share this moment! 🙌🌟

Through the Panama Canal Locks 🚢🌎

We’ve officially completed our passage through all the locks of the Panama Canal, and what an incredible experience it has been! From the moment the gates first opened to now, as we continue sailing onward, it’s been a journey filled with awe and appreciation for this historic feat of engineering.

Watching the Villa Vie Odyssey rise and fall with the waters, surrounded by breathtaking views of lush greenery and the intricate workings of the canal, was like traveling through time and innovation. This wasn’t just a passage—it was a memory that will last a lifetime.

Our journey through this “Eighth Wonder of the World” has connected more than just oceans—it’s connected us to the incredible spirit of exploration. Onward to the next adventure! 🌴🌊

🌴A Perfect Day at Lime Cay, Jamaica 🐠

Our day started with a little unexpected adventure! We accidentally hopped on a shuttle to Fort Charles 🚌🏰, but it turned out to be a happy mistake. After exploring the area briefly, we decided to walk back towards Bar Y-Knot 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️, taking in the local sights along the way.

On our walk, we stopped at Oceans Apart Bar 🍺🌊 for a refreshing beer—a great way to cool off in the Jamaican heat ☀️. The journey back was full of unique encounters: we spotted goats 🐐, wild pigs 🐖, and many homeless dogs 🐕 roaming freely. It was a raw and real glimpse into life in this corner of Jamaica.

When we finally made it to Bar Y-Knot 🍹, we met up with friends and boarded a small boat 🚤 for the short trip to Lime Cay—just $20 per person round trip 💵.

The island was everything we hoped for and more. The pristine white sands 🏝️ and turquoise waters 🌊 were the perfect backdrop for our day. We watched pelicans 🦩 dive gracefully into the water, catching fish 🎣 so close to us it felt like a live nature documentary. They were completely unbothered by people, making the experience even more special.

Snorkeling 🏊‍♀️🤿 was a highlight, with vibrant marine life beneath the surface 🐠🪸. Swimming in the warm Caribbean waters 🌴 was pure bliss, and the peaceful vibe of Lime Cay made us forget the rest of the world 🌅.

It was a day full of adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable moments with friends 👫. Lime Cay truly is a hidden gem 💎 and the perfect escape for anyone visiting Jamaica.

🎄Deck the Halls – Ship Style! 🎄

The holiday spirit aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey is truly magical this year with the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest! The creativity and effort that went into these trees are incredible—each one is a work of art.

The standout for me has to be the tree decorated as Mike and Mrs. Klaus—or should I say, Kathy! 🎅🤶 This tree goes above and beyond, capturing the holiday magic in such a unique way. It’s charming, festive, and absolutely unforgettable.

Every corner of the ship feels like a celebration of the season, and the decorations are a wonderful reminder of the joy that this time of year brings.

🌴 Planes, Sand, and Sunshine: Thanksgiving at Maho Beach! ✈️☀️

This year, we traded turkey and stuffing for sun, sand, and jet blasts at the world-famous Maho Beach in St. Maarten! Known as Airport Beach, this incredible spot gave us front-row seats to planes landing and taking off just feet above our heads.

We started the day with friends, taking a $2 local van ride to the beach. Once there, we soaked up the sun, sipped on local beers from the grocery store (budget travel win! 🍻), and marveled at the powerful jet blasts that sent sand, hats, and more flying. 🌊✨

We even stopped by the Drift Wood Boat Bar to meet more of our Villa Vie Odyssey crew before wrapping up the day with some much-needed pizza near the port.

We’re celebrating Thanksgiving in the most epic way—here at Airport Beach in St. Maarten! 🌴✈️ Nothing like a plane flying just over our heads to remind us of how incredible this journey has been.But as much as we’re grateful for breathtaking destinations, unforgettable memories, and the chance to live our dream, we can’t help but miss our friends and family back home today. 💛 Thanksgiving is all about togetherness, and though we’re far away, you’re always close in our hearts.Check out this wild video of a plane soaring right above us—it’s an unforgettable moment we wish we could share in person with all of you! 🌴 Two Days in Beautiful Antigua 🌴

Our time in Antigua was filled with warm weather, unique sights, and some well-deserved relaxation!

Day 1: We walked 1.5 miles from the port to Ft. James Beach. The stroll took us through residential neighborhoods and included an unexpected sight—cows that had broken loose and were dragging a stake with them as they wandered! Once at the beach, we found the Treehouse Beach Bar where we enjoyed $4 beers. The wings and “nachos” (a.k.a. just chips) were a bit overpriced, but the stunning ocean views and free lounge chairs with a beer purchase made up for it! For the first time since Maui, we dipped into the ocean. The water was so warm it felt like stepping into a bathtub—absolutely heavenly.

Day 2: We stayed closer to the port, exploring the local shops and enjoying $1.20 beers from a nearby store. We couldn’t resist sitting at the port, sipping our drinks with a gorgeous view of our beautiful Odyssey.
