🌴 Planes, Sand, and Sunshine: Thanksgiving at Maho Beach! ✈️☀️

This year, we traded turkey and stuffing for sun, sand, and jet blasts at the world-famous Maho Beach in St. Maarten! Known as Airport Beach, this incredible spot gave us front-row seats to planes landing and taking off just feet above our heads.

We started the day with friends, taking a $2 local van ride to the beach. Once there, we soaked up the sun, sipped on local beers from the grocery store (budget travel win! 🍻), and marveled at the powerful jet blasts that sent sand, hats, and more flying. 🌊✨

We even stopped by the Drift Wood Boat Bar to meet more of our Villa Vie Odyssey crew before wrapping up the day with some much-needed pizza near the port.

We’re celebrating Thanksgiving in the most epic way—here at Airport Beach in St. Maarten! 🌴✈️ Nothing like a plane flying just over our heads to remind us of how incredible this journey has been.But as much as we’re grateful for breathtaking destinations, unforgettable memories, and the chance to live our dream, we can’t help but miss our friends and family back home today. 💛 Thanksgiving is all about togetherness, and though we’re far away, you’re always close in our hearts.Check out this wild video of a plane soaring right above us—it’s an unforgettable moment we wish we could share in person with all of you! 🌴 Two Days in Beautiful Antigua 🌴

Our time in Antigua was filled with warm weather, unique sights, and some well-deserved relaxation!

Day 1: We walked 1.5 miles from the port to Ft. James Beach. The stroll took us through residential neighborhoods and included an unexpected sight—cows that had broken loose and were dragging a stake with them as they wandered! Once at the beach, we found the Treehouse Beach Bar where we enjoyed $4 beers. The wings and “nachos” (a.k.a. just chips) were a bit overpriced, but the stunning ocean views and free lounge chairs with a beer purchase made up for it! For the first time since Maui, we dipped into the ocean. The water was so warm it felt like stepping into a bathtub—absolutely heavenly.

Day 2: We stayed closer to the port, exploring the local shops and enjoying $1.20 beers from a nearby store. We couldn’t resist sitting at the port, sipping our drinks with a gorgeous view of our beautiful Odyssey.

🌴 Our Day in Guadeloupe 🌴

Today, we set out to explore Guadeloupe, starting with a visit to the lively local market. The vibrant colors, unique smells, and bustling energy made it an experience to remember!

As hunger kicked in, we spotted someone enjoying McDonald’s and decided to ask for directions. Despite the language barrier, he kindly pointed us in a direction, and off we went, hunting for the golden arches. It felt like a wild goose chase, and just when we were about to give up… we finally found it!

To our relief, the McDonald’s was clean, the fries were hot, and they tasted just like home—sometimes, you just need a little comfort food!

As we continued wandering, we noticed that Guadeloupe itself felt a bit rundown, with uneven paths and many buildings in need of care. But there were still plenty of bright spots—like the stunning street art that brought so much life and character to the area.

Exploring Fort-de-France in Martinique 🌴⛪️

Today we spent some time walking around the vibrant town of Fort-de-France in Martinique. We admired the stunning architecture of landmarks like the Schoelcher Library and St. Louis Cathedral, but Mother Nature had her own plans for us! 🌧️⛈️

Halfway through our walk, the skies opened up, and we got caught in a downpour. With lightning flashing, we made the safe call to pack away the umbrella and wait out the rain before heading back to the ship. By the time we got there, we were absolutely soaked! 💦

On the bright side (pun intended), Johan was craving a taste of home, so we stopped by McDonald’s for a quick bite. 🍔🍟 Sometimes, comfort food just hits the spot after an adventure like this!

Exploring Soufrière: A Day in Town 🌴🌞

Today, we decided to take a leisurely stroll through the charming streets of Soufrière, St. Lucia. This vibrant town, nestled against the dramatic backdrop of the Pitons 🏞️, was the perfect place to soak in the local culture and enjoy a slower pace.

Our first stop was the Mambo Bar 🍺, a cozy little spot where we tried a few local beers. The flavors were refreshing and gave us a taste of St. Lucia’s laid-back vibe. As we sat there, watching the world go by, we noticed how life in Soufrière moves at its own rhythm—unhurried and full of character. 🛶🌊

Continuing our walk, we stumbled upon a lively gathering of locals. Intrigued, we decided to join in and discovered it was a tucked-away restaurant 🍴 that wasn’t catering to tourists but instead serving dishes beloved by the locals. Without hesitation, we ordered the Jerk Chicken Plate 🍗🌶️, a meal bursting with bold spices and authentic flavors. Every bite was a culinary journey, perfectly capturing the essence of St. Lucia’s rich food culture.

If you’re ever in Soufrière, don’t be afraid to wander off the beaten path. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Embrace the local spots, taste the traditional dishes, and immerse yourself in the culture. Sometimes, the best moments are the unplanned ones. ✨

A Stroll Through St. George’s with a Fun Twist! 🌴⚓

As we explored the charming streets of St. George’s Historic Center, a friendly local stopped us and asked, “Did you come from the Braemar?”

He went on to describe the Braemar’s distinctive colors and said how much our ship looked like it. That’s when we had the fun chance to explain: our home, the , is actually the former Braemar! Even with its updated look and name, it’s still instantly recognizable to those familiar with the ship. 🚢💙

It was such a fun moment to connect over the Odyssey’s history and hear how much the locals know about the ships that visit their port. St. George’s is full of surprises, both in its historic charm and the stories its people share. 🌍✨

🍻 Bars Around the World: Official Stop #1 – Grenada! 🌎

Today, we officially kicked off our “Bars Around the World” tour, and what better place to start than in beautiful Grenada? We found a super local spot where the vibes were amazing, and the locals welcomed us with open arms. 💃🕺We danced together to “Islands in the Stream” (yes, it was as fun as it sounds!) and shared laughs and great conversations. I enjoyed my very first Carib beer—refreshing and perfect for the island heat.

The best part? Johan brought back a roti from next door for us to share at the bar. This Caribbean favorite, with its soft flatbread and flavorful curried filling, was absolutely delicious and the perfect addition to our day. 🌯Grenada, you’ve set the bar high for this tour. Can’t wait to see where the next stop takes us! 🏝️🇬🇩

🌴 Barbados Bliss! 🌴

Yesterday was all about soaking up the beauty of Barbados! We strolled through the charming town, taking in the vibrant energy and colorful surroundings. But the real highlight? Relaxing on a breathtaking white sand beach with a cold local beer in hand. 🍺☀️

For the first time since moving from Maui in April, I dipped into the ocean, and WOW—the water was so warm and inviting! It felt like a big tropical hug. 🌊💙

Barbados, you’ve stolen a piece of my heart. 🏝️

🇺🇸🇵🇦 Today on board the Villa Vie Odyssey, we had a heartfelt tribute led by Dr. V, a proud Marine Corps veteran, honoring all the veterans on our ship, both international and from the U.S. 🌍🇺🇸 The tribute took place in the Living Room (Morning Light), a special gathering space that’s quickly becoming a place of connection and reflection.

It was truly inspiring to see so many come together to remember and celebrate the service and sacrifices of veterans from around the world. With each day, the Living Room feels more like the heart of our journey at sea.

Next, we’re looking forward to welcoming new faces and incredible experiences as we head toward Barbados and Panama! 🚢🌴 Can’t wait to share the ride with all of you!

We had the absolute pleasure of spending time with John and Melody Hennessee, proud owners of the most unique suite on the Villa Vie Odyssey! 🛳️ This incredible couple transformed three cabins into one stunning suite, making it their perfect home at sea.

During our visit, they shared the inspiring story of how they found Villa Vie, their vision for life on the Odyssey, and, of course, the story behind their iconic top hats 🎩! We even got to enjoy a lively happy hour together, joined by other fellow residents. 🍸🥂

From their warm personalities to their passion for the cruise life, John and Melody embody the spirit of adventure and elegance. We’re so grateful to call them friends and thrilled to share their journey with you.

🍳 Yesterdays Cooking Demonstration Delight! 🥑

Today’s cooking demonstration with Executive Chef Panos was a fantastic experience! We learned how to make guacamole from scratch, perfectly balanced with fresh ingredients that brought a taste of authenticity. Then, Chef Panos showed us how to fry up chicken breasts to golden perfection—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside! 😋

The best part? Chef’s sense of humor had everyone laughing throughout the session! His lively personality made the demonstration as enjoyable as it was educational. Can’t wait to try these recipes myself. Thank you, Chef Panos, for sharing your culinary magic with us! 👨‍🍳✨

Our Day in Dakar 🇸🇳✨

Our day in Dakar was one to remember. We spent time walking through the vibrant, bustling streets and visited a few local markets filled with energy and authentic finds 🛍️🌍. The experience was unlike anything we’ve encountered before—raw, eye-opening, and full of contrasts.

The neighborhood we explored was undoubtedly different from what we’re used to: a mix of poverty, chaotic scenes, and a gritty atmosphere that left a deep impression 🏚️💭. Although it felt a bit sketchy at times, we want to share that we never felt directly threatened. Still, it was a place that required caution and staying alert, so we stuck with our large group and made sure to stay close 👥.

One unique aspect of our visit was that filming was frowned upon by the locals 🎥🚫, so while we won’t have a video to share this time, our memories and photos will tell the story 📸. We only ventured out for one of our two days here but left with a lasting appreciation for the resilience and spirit of Dakar.

This visit reminded us that travel is not just about beautiful sights but also about experiencing places that challenge and broaden our perspective 🌏💫.

Just spent an incredible day exploring the rich history and beauty of Cidade Velha, Cape Verde’s Old Town on Santiago Island!
🏰✨ From the fascinating fort and historical ruins to a peaceful stroll on the local beach, every moment was unforgettable. We even made a stop at the cultural center to soak in the island’s vibrant heritage and wrapped up the day with a refreshing local beer. 🍻

Bar Hopping in Casablanca 🍻 | Friends & Vintage Vibes

Street vendors sold fresh bread 🥖, bananas 🍌, and more along the way. Soon we reached Atomic Bar for cold Casablanca beers 🍺 before heading to Bistrot Du Titan for a delicious lunch 🍽️. Good morning from the Villa Vie Odyssey 🌈☕! We just arrived in Tenerife and are enjoying a beautiful breakfast of lox and toast on the lanai while watching a rainbow over the ocean 🌊.

Soon, we’ll be heading out to take a friend to the airport and then to Los Cristianos for some delicious Swedish meatballs at the Swedish Church 🇸🇪🍽️ – just like we did about 5 months ago. Can’t wait to revisit this lovely spot!
