TRAVEL UPDATE
Travel restrictions to the West Maui communities of Kā‘anapali, Nāpili, Honokōwai, and Kapalua will be lifted for residents and visitors on October 8 following Governor Green's latest address.
While Lahaina will remain closed to the public, the governor expressed the decision has been made to help West Maui begin to recover economically and visitors should not "be discouraged or reluctant to go and the support the businesses and workers that rely on tourism in West Maui for their families’ livelihood."

While the past few weeks have brought many challenges to our Maui community, we have taken solace in the continuous opportunities to work together, support one another, and care for each other. As we continue to offer assistance to those directly impacted by offering units for emergency housing, we also lean on you, our guests, to play a role in Maui's recovery by returning to the island and visiting responsibly.
We want to assure our guests that while Lāhainā is closed and disaster recovery efforts continue in West Maui (including Nāpili, Kā‘anapali, and Kapalua), there are many other beautiful areas on Maui unaffected by the wildfires that are safe to visit and open to travelers.
Our local economy is directly supported by your visit. We encourage you to come and explore the many other wonderful places on the island, to travel mindfully, and mālama (care for) the island of Maui and the local community while you are here.
We are grateful for your continued compassion and assistance as we all work together to support and rebuild our home.
We extend a heartfelt mahalo to our property owners who have graciously offered their units as emergency residences *completely free of charge* for those displaced by the fires. We are humbled by your support and solidarity.

Governor Josh Green has 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙖𝙪𝙞 in his latest news conference on August 16 while addressing a community concern about ensuring the economic well-being of Maui and emphasized the importance of travel to the island.
“Like we saw in the pandemic, decisions we made can affect everyone across the islands. So what we’re saying now is travel should not be to West Maui. But the other parts of Maui are safe,” said Governor Green. “And the rest of the state, of course, is also safe.”
In alignment with Governor Green, the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority urges visitors to refrain from going to West Maui (including Lāhainā, Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, and Kapalua) as a means of respect to the people and places that have been lost in Lāhainā during this devastating tragedy and 𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙖𝙪𝙞.

We are extremely proud of our Maui community and the outpour of support given to those impacted in Lahaina and Upcountry. Our local staff has been working around the clock to assist over 30 individuals who have been displaced and we are currently housing 7 families as a result of their efforts.
Over 60 of our rental properties have been placed as emergency housing as available units through the Hawai’i Fire Relief Housing Program, and are also available through Maui Hotel & Lodging Association relief program. Supporting our staff of exceptionally giving employees remains a priority, as does supporting the needs of our community members, property owners, and visitors.
