Stopped in for some seriously delicious smoked goodness from our dear Chewy’s Aloha Aina BBQ truck where we’re always greeted with warm hugs and smiles. 😊

Our lovely guests are basking in BBQ bliss after our perfect 1/2 Day Hana adventure! His fully loaded menu was a challenge to decide what to get as Chewy is a master at his craft. 🔥

I opted for the “Choose 2 Meats Plate”with marinated/smoked garlic chicken wings and pork belly. Served with the most amazing Cilantro-Coconut Sticky Rice, wasabi, scallion potato salad (to die for!), and Griddled Cornbread with Guava Butter. And let's not forget the warmed-up banana bread with guava butter... 💋chef's kiss!

Chewy is an amazingly talented chef who has worked in the best of the best restaurants worldwide. I’m so lucky to have discovered him 8 years ago on the Road to Hana. His food truck is a must visit. You must try the wasabi mac salad and tell him Dana sent ya! 🤙

10 year old Claire claimed the waterfall like a boss! 💪💦 From pure exhilaration to gangster cool in seconds flat. 😂 This little adventurer’s face said it all after conquering this epic Maui waterfall. So proud of her for taking on this challenge! Moments like this are what dreams are made of and we were honored to make hers come true true today. ❤️

Small island moment today (literally) on the Road to Hana! 👀

While taking photos with my guests, we had a surprise drive-by from our beloved guides, Sabrina and Rala-
making the 600 turn voyage to the Hana farmers market with their weekly coconut harvest! 🥥

That’s not all they be side-hustling! They also offer their amazing, hand made wellness tinctures, skin care products, and wild salmon brined with all organic ingredients packed with Aloha! 🤙

Sweet synchronicities are all part of the daily magic we all feel living here! ❤️

This grass roots, filling in the huge gaps, effort could not be possible without you. The needs change minute by minute and we are staying on top of them in order to get the funds to the people who need it most. Part of that is investigating false information or dated information that we see going around. Although I have fortunately not run across any dishonesty, and am more seeing information that has been incorrect as rumors fly around and information gets skewed. One example is a post we saw about Kula and the water situation. Kula’s (upcountry) water is not safe to drink and donations have been sent to various hubs up there. The post was stating that they desperately need more and to deliver to Kula lodge immediately. I was about to drop everything and head to Costco to get 275 gallon totes and bring up there but thought since I know the manager of Kula Lodge, it might be good to call first. I’m glad I did as I was informed that they had plenty of water and volunteers. By us not calling and checking in, we could have wasted over 3 hours of time that could have been helping other people. Just a friendly helpful tip if you see a post or hear something about what is needed, make sure you do a little researching into it as when the post was created, they may have received a flood of donations and are overwhelmed. If you have posted something that is not relevant anymore, please go back and take it down to avoid confusion. There so much going around out there and we want to be as efficient as we can. We are all trying to do our best as most of us are not disaster relief experts. These are some things that I have learned along the way from my experiences and from talking with my sister who sees these things happen all the time when she does this work.
Here is what we have been up to these past 2 days.
Met and interviewed Dani at the donation site at Maalaea Harbor
While we were up there, we realized we hadn’t eaten all morning so stopped in at Tantes to grab food. The place was empty and we were the only customers at lunch time. Everyone there was so kind and smiling. Our waitress was so lovely and we soon learned that her pregnant daughter escaped the fires with her 3 other children and gave birth the day before yesterday. She was supposed to have a baby shower for her daughter and had no time to get anything for her. We gifted her a Target card so she could get her daughter and grandkids the things they needed.
We then headed to Home Depot to meet up with some people that were buying supplies to set up kitchens on the west side and needed water for showering and drinking. We met a bad ass woman named Pasha who is handling! We followed her to Costco and bought 2, 275 gallon water totes for her to deliver over to the West side and also gave her some of the cards to give to people there because that day access to the west side was very restricted. While in the parking lot at Home Depot, I met 2 journalists from the LA times and gave an interview about how local businesses will be affected if they keep telling people not to come here. I made friends with them and today and driving them to the west side to meet with my Hawaiian Ohana so they can tell their stories. I will be bringing gift cards and cash to distribute to anyone who is in need.
We also visited the War memorial shelter where my friend was volunteering and gave $100 to a single mom there that escaped the fire with her children. She moved here only 3 weeks ago and has no support.
Yesterday we gathered donated suitcases, sunglasses, and readers for those moving out of the shelters. They have nothing to contain the small amount of belongings for the move.
Floods of messages have come in from so many including dozens of previous tour guests. I have been trying to keep up and respond back to each of you and it’s taking quite a chunk of time. Please follow my posts and I will do my best to update when I can. Thank you all so much for each donation. Every card we give out is met with tears and hugs. Love you!

We go out again today.
