Crazy 🤪 but the po-po got him! 🤙🏻

A 47-year-old Kahului man made his initial appearance in federal court Tuesday after he was arrested in connection with a series of found on Maui, one of which blew up and damaged a sport utility vehicle.

First time I was the one enforcing the law. Flocks of people were beyond the border/stop sign and within feet of the turtles. Only these remained. Disrespect is sad. $10k fine as a reminder.

Aloha 🏝️
Sharing latest on agreement between the governor of Hawaii and Airbnb. This is a letter/email all condo owners received:
“We’re updating our Extenuating Circumstances Policy and changing its name to make it easier to understand.

The revised Major Disruptive Events Policy will apply to all trips and Experiences taking place on or after June 6, 2024, regardless of when they were booked.

What’s changing in the policy?
Foreseeable weather events at the reservation’s location are explicitly eligible for coverage if they result in another covered event, such as a government travel restriction or large-scale utility outage.

The policy will only apply to events in the place where the reservation is located. Events that impact a guest’s ability to travel to the reservation are no longer covered.
Your continued use of the Airbnb Platform from June 6, 2024, constitutes acceptance of the updated Major Disruptive Events Policy.

Thank you for being a member of our community.

Thanks,
The Airbnb Team”

If you rent a condo via personal/direct booking I recommend that you address this accordingly - to your satisfaction. I would be interested to know if the governor will enforce companies like Maui Rentals, for example…

Anyone know the added ingredients for huli huli chicken?

Shoyu chicken
Shoyu chicken is a popular Hawaiian dish that features chicken cooked in a savory and slightly sweet soy sauce-based marinade. The dish is known for its delicious flavor and tender texture. Here's a simple recipe for making Shoyu Chicken:

Ingredients:

- 3-4 pounds chicken thighs or drumsticks
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped green onions
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening the sauce)
- Cooked white rice for serving

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, water, brown sugar, green onions, onion, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well until the sugar is dissolved.

2. Place the chicken pieces in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, making sure each piece is well-coated. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight for the best flavor.

3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

4. Transfer the chicken and marinade into a baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-60 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice glaze.

5. if needed, baste the chicken every 15-20 minutes during the baking process. This involves spooning or brushing the marinade over the chicken pieces. Basting helps to keep the chicken moist and imparts additional flavor.

6. Turn or flip the chicken at around the halfway mark (around 22-30 minutes). This helps ensure even cooking and caramelization on both sides.

7. If you want a thicker sauce, you can transfer the liquid (marinade and drippings) to a saucepan after cooking the chicken. Mix in 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, and cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens and pour back over the chicken.

8. Serve the Shoyu Chicken over cooked white rice, and with sides like vegetables, Miso Soup or your other choices, garnished with additional chopped green onions if desired.

Enjoy your homemade Shoyu Chicken!

Did you know? Kamaole Beach 1, south end concrete on the beach/near the ocean - follow up story 😎
During WWII this area was known as “the Naval Combat Demolition Training and Experimental Station”. Home base of the United States Navy’s underwater demolition team, 14. Deactivated 10/20/45.

Nicknamed “The Frogmen” in the 1955 movie 🎥

On December 14, 1941, Pearl Harbour underwater teams were developed here on Maui for pacific warfare. Team 14 combat was ready in six weeks. The first team was made up of all volunteers. What did they wear? Swim trunks, masks, (without snorkels or breathing apparatus), fins, mine, detonators, hunting knives, and writing slates with pencils.

Check out this amazing aerial panoramic picture/view of Makena 😯

An excellent aerial panorama was taken at dawn showing Pu'u Ola'i (Red Hill), Little Beach, Big Beach, and all of Makena Beach.

Trivia: Little Beach is the only “unofficial” clothing-optional beach on Maui.

Pu'u Ola'i, also known as Red Hill, is a dormant volcanic cinder cone located in Makena, Maui, Hawaii. It rises abruptly from the coastline. Pu'u Ola'i translates to "Earthquake Hill" or "Hill of Life."

Caution: There can be a treacherous shorebreak at Makena. Exercise great care!

Maui (not Lahaina or surrounding areas) needs visitors, so please keep your reservations.

Banyan Tree Update Sept 6, 2023 👍🏻
“We did root samples last week and we had very good news as far as new life in the roots. A lot of new roots shooting off. We tested the moisture and arborist Steve Nims, who is the unofficial leader of the Banyan Tree hui has analyzed all the treatments and he is out today putting sensors on the tree to measure growth rates. With the compost tea we are seeing good results and as long as we give it enough love, I think it’s going to be fine,” Imonti commented.

The 150-year-old banyan tree is still standing in Lahaina, and experts are optimistic in its survival after the disasterous Maui wildfires.
