Nearly one year ago, on August 8, 2023, our world was turned upside down as flames took homes, schools, businesses and cherished loved ones in the Lāhainā fire.

Pacific Whale Foundation and PacWhale Eco-Adventures is grateful for the resilient community we are apart of. Thanks to your generous donations and support through our cruises, together we have made great progress towards recovery. However, there is still more work to be done. We need you more now than ever.

Today, Pacific Whale Foundation is launching the Critical Impact Fund to help us get through this unprecedented time. This unrestricted fund will support PWF's areas of most urgent need to protect the ocean, programs focused on the health of Maui's ‘aina (ocean, land and air) and people. Some of these initiatives include plans to plant native trees and stabilize soil, monitor and restore coral reefs, work with the community to offer reef-friendly landscaping training and support volunteer efforts.

On August 8, 2023, our beloved community faced an unimaginable tragedy with the Lahaina Fires. In remembrance of the lives lost, the homes destroyed, and the community affected, Mala Ocean Tavern will be closed on August 8, 2024.

This closure allows our ohanas and team members time for personal reflection and remembrance. We ask you to join us in taking this day to reflect, honor, and remember the profound impact of the fires on our Lahaina community.

Our thoughts are with those who continue to heal and rebuild. We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support, the aloha spirit, and the many people that have helped us to reopen our doors and serve our community once again. Together, we honor the past, embrace the present, and look forward to a hopeful future.

WAILUKU FIRST FRIDAY RETURNS ON 8/2/24:

Wailuku First Friday, a beloved community event celebrating art, culture, and community spirit in Wailuku, is scheduled to make its return on August 2nd from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Organizers are currently in the planning stages for the event, which promises to bring back the vibrant atmosphere and local charm that attendees have come to love.

Wailuku First Friday traditionally features live music, art exhibitions, local food vendors, and activities for all ages, creating a festive environment for residents and visitors alike. The event highlights the rich cultural heritage of Wailuku and supports local businesses and artists.

“We are excited to announce that Wailuku First Friday will be returning in August," said Daryl Fujiwara, event coordinator. "We are currently in the planning process and look forward to sharing more details soon. It's going to be a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy everything Wailuku has to offer."
