Discover a beacon of hope nestled on the serene shores of the Outer Banks, North Carolina – the Little Red Mailbox. This charming spot invites visitors to share and discover messages of hope, love, and encouragement. The Little Red Mailbox of Hope was created in 2014 by Sue Goodrich, stemming from a desire to spread compassion and positivity amidst personal and communal distress. It stands as a testament to the belief in the goodness of people and the power of sharing uplifting words.
Leaving a note within this iconic red haven does more than just fill space; it weaves a connection of shared human experience, offering a moment of solace, inspiration, or joy to an unknown friend. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, writing a note here feels like sending a message in a bottle into a sea of hearts, never knowing whose shores it will comfort. It’s a beautiful expression of communal hope and individual reflection, reminding us all that no matter what, we are not alone. The Little Red Mailbox of Hope in the Outer Banks not only preserves the essence of spontaneous kindness but continues to inspire countless visitors with its simple yet profound gesture of leaving notes of hope.

“I read this article with my students about this really amazing lady who lives at the Outer Banks who put up this "mailbox of hope" for everyone to stop by and write about their messages of hope or struggles they are going through.

I'm heading down there in a couple weeks, so my students are writing some messages for the mailbox, and I can't wait to deliver them.

These messages both warm my heart and break it at the same time, but I'm so glad for the mailbox which gave me the idea for this activity with my students

~ I've had the chance to see how strong, caring, and resilient these precious 13 year-olds can be ❤ My kids!”
