Interesting... 🐚🐌🌾

Have you ever picked up a seashell with a perfect hole in it? Did you think this shell was destined to be part of a necklace or a piece of art?

The animal that lived in that shell was attacked by a predator. The predator is a Shark Eye (Polinices duplicatus), also known as a moon snail. Moon snails eat clams by drilling a hole into their shells. These sea creatures then use their radula, a conveyer-like belt of hardened teeth, to drill into the shell. During the drilling process they also release acid to dissolve the calcium carbonate the shell is composed of. Once it breaks through the shell all the way, the snail releases digestive enzymes that break down the body of its victim.

When all of that work is done, the moon snail slurps up the clam the same way you might slurp up a milk shake!

A wild mustang known around the world for being featured in Outer Banks tourism materials has died. Roamer died Saturday, just 24 hours after getting sick. He was buried on Corolla Wild Horse Fund property.
