๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒต Along the iconic Route 66, nestled in the rugged cliffs near Kingman, AZ, lies a hidden gem often referred to as the Shaffer Fish Bowl or Gold Fish Bowl.

In the 1930s, during the Works Progress Administration (WPA) construction of the "Gold Road Section" of Route 66, water sources were scarce in the desertโ€™s harsh environment. A man named Shaffer found water seeping from the cliffs and built a basin from local rock and concrete to capture it. This ingenious creation provided life-saving water to travelers, animals, and vehicles braving the journey west.

๐Ÿ  Over time, locals began adding goldfish, snails, and aquatic plants to the basin. These additions kept the water fresh and free of algae, and the tradition of stocking it with fish continues to this day! You can find it by spotting the column of stone stairs leading up the cliff wall.

Historic Vibes: Visit Yesterdayโ€™s Restaurant and Cyanide Springs Replica Ghost Town, or check out the Roy Purcell murals on a colorful hike.

๐ŸŽ‰ Events and Fun: Donโ€™t miss their annual Old Minersโ€™ Day Parade, St. Patrick's Day Parade, and re-enactment shows by the Silver Sage Vigilantes on the first and third Saturdays of the month, October through May, at 12pm and 1pm.
