Visitor spending continued to break records for North Carolina in 2023, according to data released Tuesday by the N.C. Department of Commerce. Travel spending statewide rose 6.9 percent to $35.6 billion in 2023 to set a record in visitor spending. That growth followed a record-breaking increase of 15 percent in 2022. Kinston Drag Strip was originally built as a quarter-mile dragstrip in 1960. KDS MotorSports became IHRA-sanctioned in the mid 80โs. The very first divisional points meet was held here in 1991.

The CSS Neuse Foundation is hosting "Naval Rendezvous" - a living history event focused on naval recruitment in the Kinston area during the Civil War from July 19 through July 21.
The name of the event may sound odd to us, but "naval rendezvous" was the correct term for a recruiting drive sponsored by any individual naval ship or shore station. The current practice of dispatching recruits from a regional training camp was far into the future.
The 2024 recreation of the "Naval Rendezvous" will take place at the CSS Neuse II from July 19 through July 21, with the bulk of the activity taking place on Saturday, July 20.
Our re-creation will be largely imaginary but will feature an enlistment officer, drilling of new recruits, and various naval and military demonstrations through the day, In addition, crew members will be stationed at interesting points in the boat.
Ma's Hotdog House has been a family owned business in Kinston for many years. To that end, the restaurant is a bit of a museum in itself.
Its walls are adorned with photos of antique signs and license plates and a little bit of local history. But make no mistake, the only true stars in this restaurant are its famous hot dogs.
Each is cooked up and slapped in a fresh bun for your dining pleasure. Add some slaw, mustard and maybe some chili.
