Weight control in SCUBA diving is an important aspect that alludes a lot of beginners and is often brushed off or touched upon very lightly in when you start to learn. Most dive masters will make sure you are more weighted, especially when you don't know how much weight you need. Testing and knowing how to figure out when your over weighted and how much weight you need is an easy skill to pick up on and once you do, it will open the world up to improving your buoyancy significantly in SCUBA diving.

Equalizing is one of the first gate keeping skills for many types of diving and its where a lot of beginners struggle. It doesn't have to be this way and many experienced dive masters have great advice to help new divers improve here. Ultimately, it boilds down to relaxing, taking your time, and ignoring others which reinforces the first two points!

Many love travel but few love diving and that's such a shame as there are so many wonderful things to see and explore under the water. Its of course not the human's natural environment but thankfully with SCUBA technology and a little bit of training, this world can be open to you and others to explore. If your curious on exploring SCUBA or improving your skills, I'll be releasing a series of SCUBA related videos soon! We certainly love SCUBA diving and spend quite a number of our trips in a year on diving in general.

My wife and I have been on 9+ years of adventure up to this point. We are so hardcore we've avoided going to "easier" and "more accessible" places because we can go there when we are older. We are always trying to see the hard-to-see things and challenge ourselves. Plus we are both engineers and embrace our own trip planning as we go. We work full-time and have achieved a nice balance and still push the limits to how much we can travel through various hacks. We are definitely aiming to live the life unlived.

Finding the right guide is a very personal thing. In general compatibility of people is very complex. Travel is a bit cost and time commitment for everyone so taking the time to make sure you mesh well with a guide is worth while. Many guides we've met are great, it takes good knowledge, language skills, and deep curiosity for travel guides to succeed. Occassionally though you may run into one that is having a rough time or not compatible with what your looking for. Take a bit of time to connect before the trip with several guides and find the right one for you.

One straight forward and fruitful tip I can give to make the most out of your travels is hiring private guides. Not tour guides, but knowledgeable experts that live locally and are professionals at guiding visitors in their area. They are paid through a company or directly and help ensure they bridge the language barrier in local areas, know the customs, fill you on all the history and culture, and ensure you have a great time. This is a missed aspect most people forego when they travel. It feels basic but once you do it on a few trips, its a game changer for travel.

Hub and spoke is a common model that is used to simplify many types of planning including travel planning. We've used this to help plan some complex trips that span across many locations and countries and it greatly helps with breaking down the planning process. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Dealing with Taxis in certain countries has created epic stories, and for most of us, as we've traveled, we've experienced some stressful situations dealing with taxi drivers. Frankly, some taxi driver culture promotes scamming tourists and locals. Dealing with them can be much easier than you think. In this video, we'll be sure to arm you with as much info as possible to ensure you can confidently handle those scammer taxi drivers and really appreciate the honest, hard-working taxi drivers out there.
Also, sorry for the lower-quality voice on this one; I recorded the whole thing, and the boom mic was not working, resulting in lower-quality sound from the built-in microphone.

Tombstone Park has very few trees as the perma-frosted ground does not give away roots. However, that does not stop numerous small ground animals from living there. You will have a good chance to see all the animals we'll see in this video. Caribou and Moose are very rare to see, and bears can be found in various parts of the park but are not common on the Grizzly Lake trail.

The big debate of soft shell vs hard shell luggage is here! We prefer soft shell as it has brought us a lot of flexibility over the years as we have traveled. However, we've also learned quite some hacks to turn our soft shell bags and still gain most of the benefits of the hard shell bags!

We need good hiking and mountaineering gear for many of the extracurricular activities we do in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, known for its beautiful mountain ranges. This gear is surprisingly excellent for travel, too, because of its high durability, low weight, packability, and multi-purpose use. While the cost of the gear is more, if you are someone who enjoys hiking while traveling, it's well worth it. Further, it's highly layer-able and purpose-driven, so each layer you need serves its purpose well, from thermal protection to wind and element protection.
Just be careful with moisture-wicking material as base layers you'd typically wear for exercise or hiking. These tend to smell easier, so I will still pack cotton shirts for regular wear outside of these activities.

We have a lot of backpacks for numerous activities, but none you will be as picky with as a travel backpack. We use this backpack hiking and frequently during travel, so we get creative. My rule is to pack all your batteries, things you might need easily accessible on the plane, and convenience items in the backpack.
Put anything you won't be reaching for on the plane on the bottom, so likely, most things you will need will be visible and reachable in a pinch.

After having some close call scares of losing our luggage (but ultimately it was found) and having traveled on a scuba diving trip where a member on our boat lost all their gear in getting to the destination (and the airlines weren't able to find it for quite some time). We are firm believers in trying to ensure you are prepared with some redundancy and backups for not only if but also when your bags are lost.
We use bag tags for this (handwritten) and electronic one that syncs with your phones (or other phones with the app) and report the last known location. This is fantastic because, when your plane leaves, you can see your bag on the plane. If it is not there as you board, you can bring the issue to the airlines' attention so they can find it immediately. I use the Tile bag tag due to its universalness, but the more users improve its effectiveness on the network. Competitor bag tags are Samsung and Apple.

We've been traveling more with a sling bag, which has come quite handy for various reasons. For one, it keeps essential items before you, which is more challenging to steal from. Also, since it's in front of you, items are easy to access, especially in airports when you have other bags and need access to your passport, flight tickets, etc.
Okay, okay, it is not exactly fashionable, but it sure beats the alternative in what I see other people do (wear their backpacks in front). I prefer the backpack to stay on the back and be used for heavier items, so this is quite an excellent addition to the travel accessories.
