READY FOR A GET AWAY?
There are a few things going on that you might enjoy: EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival, the return of Magic Kingdom’s Nighttime Parade, Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party, or perhaps it will be your first visit to Epic Universe. There is always something new to discover. Let me know if you are ready for a late summer/fall get away.

DID YOU KNOW?
You DO NOT need a Walt Disney park pass to enjoy Disney’s transportation system. I have used all modes- monorail, boat, skyliner, bus and ferry - without having to show my pass.

Truthfully, the journey is often part of the experience for me.

This is particularly true as I never tire of the castle view as I cross Seven Seas Lagoon on the ferry toward Magic Kingdom. The smaller boat from MK to Wilderness Lodge opens up a whole new other-worldly vista when I want to check out their amazing Christmas decorations. Meanwhile, the monorail is a quick way to check out Christmas displays at the Polynesian, the Floridian, and the Contemporary hotels.

One of the more scenic boat rides is out to the French Quarter from Disney Springs for a coffee and beignet. The short bus ride from Animal Kingdom to Animal Kingdom Lodge is also worthwhile: at Christmas for the decorations, but always for the animal sightings!🦒🦓

The skyliner. Heck, it’s just fun to take for the sake of taking it. However, I have often parked at Hollywood Studios and taken the Skyliner to the back door at Epcot and then on to Magic Kingdom. It is a convenient way to spend time at all 3 parks and not get caught up in the crowds and traffic at the end of the day.

Have a look at the photo to assess what modes of transportation and routes are available to you during your holiday.

NOTE: to avoid parking fees at one of the parks, you can park at Disney Springs for free. However, from there, you will need to bus to a resort and then, from that resort, bus to one of the parks to gain access to other modes of transportation. (This may or may not be worth your while.)

BUY WHAT YOU’LL ENJOY
Very active weather in my home province of Saskatchewan Canada over the past couple weeks (ie. 8 tornado touchdowns last week 😳) has me thinking again of FL hurricane preparedness.

I have been at the Villa for several hurricanes, and I could not be more reassured that we are well positioned (for numerous reasons) to sustain an active weather system (refer to my June 3, 2025 post).

I have come to the conclusion that staying in place and laying in one’s favourite foods and drinks is a pretty solid plan. There is a 1 % chance you will endure a severe hurricane at WH, but a 100% chance you will be left to consume the food and beverage you have purchased… so buy wisely.

If you are curious, this is what we bought last time I was there for a hurricane in 2022 (Hurricane Ian). These items can be opened without a can opener (although we had manual can openers at the Villa). Many choices can be spread onto a cracker. All foods could be eaten without heating if necessary. Perishables such as fruit and veg (not shown here) were in the fridge. Add to this bottled water, wine and spirits, and I think you get the picture… 😉 I can honestly say we enjoyed every last bit of it once the threat of the hurricane had passed. Waiting out a hurricane involves a lot of snacking. 😂

Have you experienced a Florida hurricane? If so, feel free to share in the comments any particular item you purchased for food or drink that you either
a) were happy to have purchased and enjoyed during or following the hurricane threat OR
b) over purchased or made a questionable purchase you later regretted.

FYI: although it is not shown here, you do know, we obviously also had some dark chocolate, right?😋

NIGHTTIME PARADE TIMES AND ROUTE
When Disney Starlight debuts on July 20, 2025, the new nighttime parade will have two show times: 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Happily Ever After will occur at 10 o’clock. NOTE: It is not known for how long Disney will keep this schedule.

Both parades will begin on Main Street U.S.A. and travel along the parade route towards Frontierland to allow for better guest flow at the end of the night.

The rationale for this reverse route is pretty simple: it allows for the parade to first pass by guests closer to the exit, allowing guests to exit the park in an orderly fashion. It creates a steady stream of guests able to leave their spots as Starlight passes, meaning crowd flow regulates itself naturally.

Knowing this route information may help you decide from where you would like to view the nighttime parade if your intention is to leave the park immediately following it.

SHINGLE CREEK
If you are interested in ‘getting your feet wet’ when it comes to kayaking the headwaters of the Everglades, consider a couple hours at Shingle Creek Regional Park near Marker 15 on 192 East.

It is best to phone ahead to confirm the water level on the two water routes is sufficiently high for an enjoyable paddle.

I would recommend this activity for individuals or as a family activity. Either paddle route is approximately a couple miles and is easily completed in two hours with plenty of time for photo taking… and you WILL want to take some photos. 😊

While there, enjoy a walk, have a packed picnic lunch on nearby tables, tour the 19th century pioneer village, cycle or walk part of the 32 mile Shingle Creek Regional Trail or visit the Osceola History Museum across the street.

Rent single kayaks, 2-person (tandem) kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddle boards. Go on a self/guided paddle OR take a guided eco-tour.

Adjacent to the paddle centre are hiking and biking trails. Effective May, 2025 Toho Bikes is making biking the trail that much easier. Their rental pick up is across the 192 beside the Osceola History Museum. Call ahead to make arrangements for your bicycle rentals:

Every time I drive by the Shingle Creek Paddling Center, I think it’s time for another visit. 🛶 🐢

HEADS UP- WORK BEING DONE
PSA - There is a TENTATIVE start date of JUNE 16th for milling and asphalt work at the Teascone–Old Lake Wilson Road intersection. This work is necessary to complete pedestrian crossings associated with the newly installed traffic lights.

It is hoped this work can be completed over TWO NIGHTS (9PM-5AM).

* The work area is highlighted in green on the attached map. Watch for signage as you approach the entrance to Windsor Hills off Old Lake Wilson Road.

* A police or traffic officer will be stationed at the Teascone entrance to assist with traffic flow during this phase.

⚠️ Important Note:
* Thermoplastic striping will be applied approximately two weeks after the asphalt installation is completed.

* WH will make every effort to minimize disruptions. This phased approach is intended to avoid a full closure of the Teascone entrance, which would otherwise require all traffic to be rerouted through the alternate entrance.

Please drive cautiously during construction hours and follow all posted signage.

GEO-82 LOUNGE-EPCOT
GEO-82 opened to the public at EPCOT on June 4. The name is a nostalgic nod to Spaceship Earth, which opened in 1982.

This second floor lounge is immersed in the history and legacy of this EPCOT icon. An important note: this lounge is ONLY for guests who are 21 years or older.

The lounge is inspired by “the stories, shapes, and enduring legacy” of Spaceship Earth. From decor, to menu, to plating, glasses, and even the ice cubes, the experience is all about Spaceship Earth and geometric design. Be sure to peruse the artefacts and ask the very knowledgable cast members for additional trivia/information.

You can find the entrance to Geo-82 near the back of the Spaceship Earth attraction. The lounge offers a relaxing atmosphere and a view overlooking Celebration Gardens.

Beyond the a la carte bar and small bites menu, GEO-82 has a Fireworks Experience that also requires reservations and is only for guests 21 years of age or older. The Fireworks Experience is $179 per person + tax and tip.

TIP: Currently, other guests will not be asked to leave during the Fireworks Experience as long as they are eating or drinking, but will be ushered away from the tables near the viewing windows. Plan to arrive early and drink and nibble your way up to and throughout Luminous. I think it would still be spectacular viewing even if you have to view it from the bar. 🍹🎆
