From Crater Lake National Park: The North Entrance Road will be open temporarily for the holiday weekend from 7:00 AM Saturday, August 31st, through Monday, September 2nd. The road will again be closed beginning at 6:00 AM on Tuesday, September 3rd.⁠

Called the "Land of the Burnt Out Fires" by the native Modoc people, the area that is now protected as Lava Beds National Monument is not only the homeland of the Modoc, but also the site of many events of the Modoc War, one of the last Indian Wars of the period of westward expansion.⁠
