Carnival’s Newest Ship, Mardi Gras, arrives in Port Canaveral on Friday, June 4, 2021.

Mardi Gras is one of the most anticipated new cruise ships in the fleet, ever.

Mardi Gras is a game-changer in the cruise industry. She is the first cruise ship in America powered exclusively by eco-friendly Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). It is also the first vessel ever to feature a roller coaster.

Mardi Gras offers over 180 suites in 11 categories, including company's new premium category "Carnival Excel" suites (32 staterooms in 4 categories) with new VIP amenities and exclusive access to Loft 19 (resort-style, open-air sundeck). All ship suites offer a VIP amenities package including priority boarding/debarkation, bottled water upon arrival, priority MDR (main dining room) seating, plush bathrobes. Passengers in "Carnival Excel" suites receive as additional amenities:

Carnival Corporation's flagship cruise line was given the green light by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to begin sailing from three U.S. ports.

Carnival Cruise Line – the latest fleet to receive CDC approval to begin hitting U.S. waters again this summer– will focus on the Port of Galveston in Texas as well as Port Miami and Port Canaveral in Florida for "its return to guest operations this summer," Carnival announced Friday.

Its Carnival Horizon ship, leaving from Miami, and the Carnival Vista and Breeze ships, leaving from Galveston, will be the first to carry passengers this July. However, Carnival fell short of announcing exactly when the ships would set sail.

In the coming days, Carnival is also expected to announce plans to restart operations at Port Canaveral, which has been deemed another "restart priority."

Latest update on travel locations open to US citizens:

Any outbound passenger should check with the U.S. Embassy or Canadian Government on the country specific information and the airline before finalizing travel plans. You can check: travel.state.gov

The CDC has extended its No Sail Order for all cruise ships through September.

U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship at this time. The CDC notes there is increased risk of infection of COVID-19 on cruise ships. In order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented strict screening procedures that deny port entry rights to ships and prevent passengers from disembarking.

CDC notes that older adults and travelers with underlying health issues should avoid situations that put them at increased risk for more severe disease. This entails avoiding crowded places, non-essential travel, and especially avoiding cruise ships. Passengers with plans to travel by cruise ship should contact their cruise line companies directly for further information, continue to monitor the travel.state.gov website, and read the latest information from the CDC.

Here are all the countries that have or have scheduled upcoming openings to U.S. & Canadian travelers

Croatia: Arrivals must provide proof of accommodation and negative PCR test taken 48 hours prior. Montenegro/Bosnia & Herzegovina/Macedonia remain closed.

Egypt: Phased reopening as of July 1 including the Red Sea, South Sinai, Marsa Matrouh, Cairo, Giza, Aswan, Luxor, Port Said & Mansoura. Limited attractions/hotels operating with government issued Health & Safety certificate. Passengers must identify Egyption cities being visited, submit a fresh PCR test 48 hours before flight. Cruise operations are still closed.

Rwanda: Rwanda restarted international flights on Aug 1.

Tahiti: Travel restrictions have been lifted.

Tanzania: Open to international travel, Mt Kilimanjaro open with precautions. Kenya borders closed to US until further notice. Tanzania is open to international travel. Limited attractions/hotels operating with government issued Health & Safety certificate. Mt Kilimanjaro open with precautions.

Kenya: Kenya is now open to international travel however restrictions are still being confirmed. Passengers are permitted to enter with a negative PCR-based COVID test conducted within 4 days of arrival.

If there is anything that Aweigh We Go Travel can do to enhance your travel needs, please let me know.

I don’t anticipate any group travel trips until at least the summer of 2021.

The majority of American bases cruise companies aren’t sailing until at least October 2020. Most all-inclusive resorts are open or will be open by September 2020; however, there are some Caribbean islands that have travel restrictions for certain countries. Currently, Mexico, Canada and several European countries will not allow US citizens to enter at this time during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Hawaii requires a 14 day quarantine.

The land border between Mexico and the US has been closed to non-essential traffic until at least August 20.

I will update this page with travel adversaries.

In any case, if you plan to travel, please take travel insurance. Always ask about the travel refund policy. Does the hotel, airline, resort or cruise give a full refund or credit for future dates?

Continue to stay safe!
