Cades Cove, the wildlife is only a small part of what makes the Cove so special, stop at all the homes, the churchs and the mill to explore, take a hike on the many trails, visit the Pearl Harbor tree and the gravesites, take a horseback or carriage tour, camp at the Campground, walk or bicycle the 11 mile loop, bring a picnic lunch ( remember don't feed the wildlife and pack out your refuse, leave no trace) stop at the Vistors Center and before you leave stop at The Campground Country Store and get a ice cream cone or a hotdog. There's so much to see and do here!

Winter is full swing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! Take a walk or drive through our Smokies Winter Wonderland. These photos were taken near Newfound Gap which sits almost a mile high in elevation. Newfound Gap stretches 5,046 feet high in the Tennessee/North Carolina sky. Temperatures at Newfound Gap tend to vary anywhere from 10Ā° F to 15Ā° F chillier than neighboring lowland areas. In a typical year, Newfound Gap receives 69 inches of snow.

If you are coming to the park to enjoy the snowcapped forests, be sure to bring plenty of layers, especially when hiking. Keep in mind that our higher elevation hikes may require extra gear to keep you safe, like microspikes or crampons. If you are visiting Newfound Gap, Clingmans Dome Road is a short 0.1 mile away. Although Clingmans Dome Road is closed to cars for the season (December-April) many visitors enjoy winter sport activities along the road such as cross-country skiing and sledding. Be sure to check road conditions to ensure roads have not closed due to inclement weather. Check road conditions on Twitter at SmokiesRoadsNPS. Ohh and donā€™t forget your hot chocolate!

Happy 104th birthday, NPS!

Today marks 104 years since President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act into law, creating the National Park Service. From its inception, the National Park Service has protected America's most special places.

Today, the National Park Service has 419 units, ranging from National Parks to National Historic Sites; National Lakeshores to National Parkways; and many more designations in between (19, in fact!).

Here in the Smokies and across the country, NPS staff and volunteers proudly carry out the National Park Service mission to "preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations" each and every day. How will YOU celebrate your national parks today?

Elk Feathers Cabin

We hope you enjoy our cozy little cabin as much as we do. It is located on Bluff Mountain about six miles from Pigeon Forge in one direction, and about four miles from Wears Valley in the other direction. There is a great view from the deck, so relax in the hot tub and soak it all in. It has a full kitchen with everything you need to prepare a great meal, but if you want to hit the town, you can be there in less than ten minutes. This is new construction and all of the furniture and appliances are new.
