Did you know African American Buffalo Soldiers helped shape Hawaiʻi’s volcanic trails? In the early 1900s, they built the Mauna Loa Trail, connecting Mauna Loa and Kīlauea—making it easier for future explorers and scientists to study these legendary landscapes. This Black History Month, we honor their legacy and the paths they paved, both in history and on the volcano. 🌋✊🏾
