Flying into Apia, Samoa for a quick stop on my way to Fiji in October. What a gorgeous view! Samoa is a very special destination with a few sweet boutique resorts. The last time I was there was 2008. We spent about 10 days there on Upolu & Savai’i islands. I think it’s about time to go again :). This time I’ll add a few days in American Samoa. It’s just a 1 hour flight from Apia. I can then check another island country off my Island Life List :). Samoa is Polynesian unlike Fiji, who are Melanesian, so the culture is quite different. Samoa opened in September and still requires visitors to be vaccinated. Let me know when you are ready to explore the South Pacific and we will make it happen…..

Can you believe it? Only 20 years ago, 1996, I personally created our first website for Fiji Reservations. This was BEFORE you could create/own a domain name. We were the first Fiji travel website. NO resort or any service/company in Fiji had a website so I was required to scan each picture from a slide and type ALL copy. It was a "build it and they will come" phenomena. I did this between 3am-6am everyday before going to work at McCoy Travel. The Hawaii website was created in 1999 and the Tahiti website was created in 2000. The internet has come a LONG way in a very short 20 years! Happy web surfing :)

Fiji Islands Day 10 Oh the Magic ( video) Just a few parting video shots that just might bring tears to your eyes if you love Fiji! Reminder that this 10 Days Fiji video series is about 15 years old so many scenes/resorts/airlines may be and are different now. Although I have been going to Fiji since 1986, the 90's through early 2000's was 'my' romance time, falling in love with the people and places in Fiji. This is when many American's started buying property and resorts in Fiji, mostly in the Northern Islands. It's a time when every outer island resort had their own 'signature' flower lei that you would be blessed with when you departed to the bitter sweet song, Isa Lei. In those days you did not receive a lei upon arrival, only departure. You would be on a plane and say, "Ah, those people were just at Qamea" because you recognized the intricately woven flower and leaf leis. I have been to Fiji about 50 times and the very few minutes of scenes in this video sums it up. It's the essence of the Isa Lei song, when tears well up from even the most prominent corporate executive's eyes as you bid farewell to the hearts and souls of the Fijian people and the lovely Fiji Isles. The beach at says it all (it's the beach on my FB photo cover). But it was The that was icing on the cake of ANY vacation or 'work' trip to Fiji. This was my trip in 2007. My last night in Fiji after more birthday cakes than you might ever wish to have (5 resorts, 5 celebrations). I apologize for the less than great video quality and my occasional singing :) The song is one of my favorite songs by the Hawaiian Artist Olomana (Jerry Santos), "So Free". A glass of champagne in hand no doubt! A TON of gratitude. This was an Isa Lei moment in time. For any of you who have fallen in love with Fiji, you know that saying farewell is so bittersweet! If you have not been, it's time to go! It's not just the beauty of this place but the people of Fiji that tug at your heartstrings.

The day the conference was over there was a Coup led by George Speight. Our people, who had attended the conference, continued to travel around Fiji for 2 weeks. Minerva, Pat, myself and Chantelle. Vatulele is now only available for single party bookings (i.e., a really good party!) which means these pictures are cherished memories of MANY good times there including 'The Point'. Isa!

Day Eight - Little white circles - so many palm lined fringed islands so little time :) Every shape and size, palm trees and powder or clad to the ocean's edge. With over 300 islands spanning many hundreds of miles, visit the low lying where the movie Blue Lagoon was filmed, the stunning islands where the movie Castaway was filmed or discover the ends of the earth on the remote culturally intact island of Kadavu or the verdant green northern islands home of some of Fiji's best scuba diving and some of Fiji's most exclusive resorts, Namale (owned by Tony Robbins), Lacala (owned by Red Bull), Cousteau (affilicated with Jean Michele Cousteau). Also in this area are intimate resorts suchas Qamea, Matagi, Taveuni Island Resort, Koro Sun (of the Bachelorette series) and many more to discover. It's also the reason that the Fiji Visitor's Bureau, now Fiji Tourism, rejected this promotional video as too riske some 15 years ago! The most provocative shots are at and . The 'under the sheets' segment is Namale's Garden Bure in the fica's tree before they upgraded all bures to be suites. This was the first bure we stayed in at Namale in 1992 so this brings back fond memories. You will also see . Fiji is one of the top romance & destinations in the world. The small intimate resorts and super friendly people are a unbeatable combination. The Producer took much poetic license in creating Day 5. Some extremely playful shots. - Day Two. The series was filmed sometime between 1998 and 2001.Air Pacific is now Fiji Airways. They have just added direct non stop flights to the Fiji Islands from San Francisco. Most of the resorts shown on Day 2 - 8 have had wonderful renovations. These videos were never released. I will explain more in the upcoming Days 3-8. Island Resort & Spa in has been a favorite of ours since our first visit in 1994. Here is the postcard I sent my Mom. It was our first of many many many visits. A little slice of heaven in the northern . The island of Qamea has no roads and the resort sits on its own beach. The Jungle Spa is pretty awesome :)
