In the Okavango Delta of Botswana, the traditional mode of transportation is a Mokoro. A Mokoro is a flat bottomed wooden canoe that glides through the reeds of the Delta with the help of a punter, who pushes a pole into the mud below the water.

These salt cellars are replicas of a traditional Mokoro and are just one of the unique, traditional crafts that you can find in Africa.

When you travel, what are some of the things you love to do?
One of my favorite things to do is to take a cooking class. I enjoy learning how to prepare the dishes that are endemic to the area I am visiting.

Some of the dishes are passed down from generation to generation, while others offer a new twist on an old recipe. In either case, the experience of cooking alongside someone who has a tradition different from yours is always an education.

It’s a way to get you beyond the front door and actually into the soul of the culture.
