Attention All J-1 Summer Work Travel Participants in Ocean City, MD! Please bring your bikes by City Hall, located on 3rd street and Baltimore Avenue any Wednesday between May 16th and June 27th from 10 am to 12 noon to get front and rear bike lights installed. With so many students using bikes to get around town, we have started a program and partnership with the Town, OC Chamber, of Commerce, Hotel Motel Restaurant Association and MD State Highway Association to keep you safer on the road! Please be sure to bring your bike with you, you must have your bike present to get the lights!

Congratulations to our Intern from South Korea, Hyejin Shin, on being selected to participate in I-LEAD -- Intern Leadership Enrichment and Development Program held in Seattle, WA this year! I-LEAD is a program of the U.S. Department of State designed to refine and enhance leadership skills of young professionals. Interns get to meet peers from around the world, develop new capacities through workshops, and learn ways to initiate and stimulate positive change in their home communities.

Hyejin is one of only 62 current interns selected through a highly competitive process out of 315 applicants this year.

Good luck in Seattle, Hyejin!

What a great way to get to know your colleagues better and become part of local culture! Bojana from Serbia is a hospitality trainee at a hotel in Florida, and she shared with us this amazing activity she participated in this month.

"The event is called Charity Challenge and it is organized yearly. Event started above 10 am and there were a lot of teams, which represented famous and big companies like SeaWorld, Expedia,.. Each team has its own "base" with chairs, food and drinks, looks like a huge picnic :) We can choose which sport we wanna play - basketball shoot out, kayak relay, obstacle course, tubing relay, volleyball and tug-of-war tournaments. I was a part of volleyball team"

On May 20 International Student Outreach Program (ISOP) will co-host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser, splitting the proceeds with a church ministry program. The Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Churches (LRAC) is supporting the weekly dinners

Interesting article about Summer Work Travel participants at Yellowstone National Park on the Department of State website. It even features one of ASPIRE participants, Chiara from Italy!

In addition to the rodeo, my colleagues Stacey Gomelsky and Nadine Zaatar also made their way to Yellowstone National Park, the second leg of their tour of Wyoming. You can read about their visits with J-1 exchange visitors at this famous and historic location.

Our talented trainees never seize to amaze us! Congratulations to Katlego Mlambo from South Africa on his great achievement!

Katlego represented his host company The Pitcher Inn (Warren, VT) together with his sous chef Tristan at the Iron Chef Competition at the Taste of The Valley on Sunday the 9th of August. They won the competition and as a result their picture was on the front page of The Valley Reporter!

Katlego: "Competing in the competition was fantastic. I have done a few competitions back in South Africa but I've never competed in a team. It was really great to have my sous chef Tristan along side me. I decided that the most important part of competing was to make the most of the experience and have fun. The rest just fell into place. I am a huge fan of the television show Iron Chef and it was so fantastic to be able to compete in a similar style competition, especially in the USA. It was also such an honour to be able to represent my host site The Pitcher Inn. I have only been in the USA for a month now and my experience so far has exceeded any expectations that I had."

Representatives of our partner agency in the Philippines, Access International, visited Marriott Sugarland, TX where they met with our J1 Interns and Trainees, as well as their supervisors. Everybody had nothing but great things to share about the program! Supervisors commended the interns on their hard work, great positive attitude, willingness to learn, abilities to learn fast, and talent in being able to take any task at hand given to them and give it 100% of their efforts still with a smile on their faces.
We are so proud to hear this! Keep up the good work! :)
