On the West side in Honokowai Maui, there's a family business that has not only survived but thrived through the most challenging times. PapisOhana, known for their delectable cinnamon rolls, assorted breakfast scones, and mouthwatering pizzas, has undergone a remarkable transformation that reflects the resilience and generosity of their ohana (family) spirit.

Before the Lahaina fire, PapisOhana was already a beloved establishment, serving locals and tourists alike with their scrumptious treats.

In the aftermath of the fire, PapisOhana became a beacon of hope for their community. They began serving free pizza and cinnamon rolls to all those in need, welcoming guests and residents alike with open arms. Their act of kindness touched the hearts of everyone who came across their doors.

Our own encounter with PapisOhana was nothing short of serendipitous. We Initially were coming to Maui to check on our condo and meet potential long-term renters, we found ourselves swept up in something much more meaningful.
Prior to arriving to the island, I reached out to see what we could contribute. We knew we had to contribute to their mission

With supplies and ingredients donated by us and others in the community, we felt a profound sense of connection to PapisOhana's mission. These simple acts of generosity, have a ripple effect, ensuring that their mission of providing free meals to those in need continues.

It's not just PapisOhana; many family-run businesses on the west side of Maui are coming together to support their community during these trying times. Their resilience and selflessness are a testament to the spirit of aloha that runs deep in these islands.

While our condo will continue to be a vacation rental at this time, we take pride in knowing that long-term housing solutions were found for those we were in contact with, including some fellow residents in our building. Our hearts are full, knowing that we were able to contribute, even in a small way, to the greater good of our Maui ohana.

As we reflect, we encourage future visitors to Maui to do their part. If you happen to do a Costco run during your stay, consider picking up a few ingredients for PapisOhana and other businesses continuing to pay it forward. Together, we can ensure that the spirit of aloha continues to shine brightly, lighting the way through even the darkest of times. PapisOhana is a shining example of what it truly means to be a part of the Maui ohana, and for that, we are eternally grateful

Hey everyone,

Scott and I wanted to share a little about what's been happening lately. As you may have heard, there was a devastating fire in Lahaina that left many families with nothing. Our HOA board member put us in contact with Melissa and her 8-year-old son Dylan, whom lost everything. The fire not only took their possessions but also their sense of security.

We couldn't stand by and watch them go through this alone, so we offered our Maui condo as a temporary shelter. It's been heartwarming to see how the community has come together to support each other in this time of need as we’ve been staying on top of things since Aug 9th.

Melissa and Dylan are truly remarkable people in the short time we’ve interacted. Their positivity and strength in the face of such adversity are inspiring to us all. Melissa was a massage therapist at one of the hotels, but sadly, the fire took away not only her workplace but also her cherished belongings.

Dylan started 3rd grade just yesterday, and we're grateful that his school was spared from the fire. However, the school has seen an influx of 100 new students due to other schools being affected by the fire. She was excited to tell me about his first day yesterday but sadly the call dropped as cell service is spotty and we still don’t have Wi-Fi/cable to our complex-west Maui.

We're doing everything we can to help them get back on their feet, and if you're in a position to contribute, we've set up options for donations.
