Its official, after over 16 years of enjoying west Maui, we just sold and closed escrow on our oceanfront Maui Kai 806 condo earlier this week. New owners Jason and Gloria are getting ready to enjoy the unit and they are also taking new reservations. Best way to book is through their new AirBnb listing airbnb.com/h/mauikai806

Aloha,

As you may be aware the Maui Kai (Kaanapali/Honokowai area) was not directly affected by the Lahaina fires but there are effects to the surrounding communities especially since tourism has paused for the month or August. One of the aspects Sophie and I find that is often overlooked when there is a disaster like this is the animals.

I personally know Kristi and all the work she does for several Maui feral cat colonies including the colony near the Maui Kai. She is registered as a non profit charity and has been helping the feral cat colonies for many years. The cats control rodents so they are helpful to the islands.

Although she is not very active on-line she is very active during this disaster and could use our financial support. In 2022, she was able to trap/neuter/release 51 cats, and adopted out 18 cats.

Aloha, some great snorkeling at Honolua yesterday that included an interesting looking puffer type fish I have yet to identify and an encounter with a 5 foot Barracuda!

It was a great day at Kapalua Bay today. Clear waters, bright sun for contrast and at least half a dozen Maui honu (look closely and you'll see there's one picture with 4 turtles within 10 feet of each other). There were also lots of heads popping up for air so I included a few of those. For more info on snorkeling in Maui check out www.806tips.com
