WHAT HUMPBACK WHALES CAN TEACH US ABOUT COMPASSION, by Elin Kelsey, Hakai Magazine.

An interesting article about "Compassionate Humpbacks". Elin introduces the topic of Humpbacks being compassionate and has our friend Fred Sharpe, Alaska Whale Foundation, weigh-in on the topic. Also included in the discussion if Robert Pitman, NOAA Southwest Fisheries, Killer Whale expert.

They talk about examples and try to interrupt it.
One interruptation is thta Humpbacks interfere as a natural response to the Orca's predation calls, they rush in just like First Responders. It may be construed as Altruism or Symbiosis, they get to feel good about doing it, which has health benefits.

Happy Aloha Humpback Thursday! The Humpback Whale researchers use photos of their Flukes to identify them. As you can see on this one there is a distinctive coloration, shape as well as scarring. This one has scarring and little bite marks including missing the right tip. Peak season is upon and whales are everywhere, call/email us to setup whale watches and/or start planning for next winter.
