In the spirit of aloha and unity after the Lahaina Fires, we set up a dedicated fund through the Global Empowerment Mission to further our relief efforts. Just over a year later, we have distributed over $260K to Lahaina-based businesses, initiatives, and families.

Every penny went directly to benefit Lahaina community initiatives and provide vital assistance to the local businesses most affected by the fires.

Aloha Trilogy ‘Ohana,

We gather this week to remember Lahaina and pay tribute to all that has been lost. As a reminder, our operations will be closed on 8/8. It is indeed a tough week, navigating emotions, as we look back on 1 year.

We’ve put together an update for you on our progress and what we’ve seen in getting Lahaina and its people back. Please visit our blog (link in bio) to read our latest post.

We have also designed a Lahaina Strong Patch. When we think of Lahaina, the picture of our catamaran sailing in front of the West Maui’s is top of mind. Since 1973, we have loved sailing the ‘AuʻAu channel connecting Maui to Lāna’i, and back again. Whether you live near or far, stand for Lahaina by purchasing a Lahaina Strong iron-on patch (tagged in this post)!

Proceeds from the Lahaina Strong Patch will go to fund our winter Keiki Whale Watches for Lahaina Schools and other Maui youth this Whale Season!

Mahalo for all the aloha we’ve received and our community continues to receive. We need it extra this week. 🙏🏽

Happy Aloha Friday from Mr. Monk Seal!🦭

We are so grateful to have marine mammals frequent our shores here in the Hawaiian Islands. 💙

Some of these marine mammals are endemic, meaning that they are found nowhere else in the world. The Hawaiian monk seal is our state mammal, native and found only here in Hawaiian waters. Heartbreakingly, it is extremely rare, with only an estimated 1100 individuals left in the entire population. 😞

It is our kokua to protect this graceful, adorable seal that represents our islands and plays in our waters. 🙏🏽

If you’re lucky enough to view one, remember to not approach Hawaiian monk seals closer than a recommended 150 feet, both to not disturb them and also for your own safety, since solitary monk seal juveniles are sometimes known to try and “play” with humans nearby, and mother seals will naturally be defensive of their pup.

To be a good neighbor, don’t feed seals or discard fishing scraps or bait into the water, so that they are not habituated to getting food from humans.

For a chance to see one of these endangered mammals in the wild, join us on a snorkel- you never know where we may spot one! We’ve been excited to have spotted monk seals off Lana’i, Olowalu and West Maui lately! ⛵️

As August 8th approaches, marking one year since we lost our beloved Lahaina town and so much more, we hug one another, we share a sense of strength and gratitude for still being here… For being Stronger Together.

Our operations will be closed on 8/8 as we gather to remember the immense loss that took place one year ago.

There are several events lined up for our Maui community in remembrance of 8/8. Please go to kuhiniamaui.org for a full schedule of events.

We will be bringing one boat to the Canoe Beach paddle out, departing from Maalaea. If you are a fire survivor and are unable to paddle out, please call us at 808-874-5649 and we will try our best to get you on our boat. Space is limited.

Our hearts are with you all, as we enter into this somber week. 🙏🏽🤍

Discover the beauty of West Maui; a sun-drenched stretch of coastline that was once the capitol of the Hawaiian Kingdom and retreat for Hawaiian royalty ☀️🌺

Most days, we sail to Olowalu for an epic morning of snorkeling. This sail departs from Mā’alaea Harbor or off of Kāʻanapali Beach at 9am— which is nice for those who want to sleep in a bit and enjoy their accommodations.

Olowalu is known as Maui’s Mother Reef, boasting an impressive 1,000+ acres of tropical reef, and containing corals over 1,500 years old. Snorkeling Olowalu truly offers our guests some of the best visibility right off the coast of Maui’s West Side. 

Olowalu is also home to a manta ray and honu (Hawaiian Sea Turtle) “cleaning station”, which provides our guests the unique opportunity to watch as friendly tropical fish clean algae from the shells & backs of these majestic creatures. Surely a memory in the making!
