There are so many articles telling us about what was destroyed in the Lahaina fires. Let’s mention what was spared!

Among the places that survived the fires incude:
1.The Banyan Tree on Front Street
2. Lahaina Shores Beach Resort on Front Street, it appears so far to have almost no damage.
3. The “miracle house” a couple plots down from Lahaina shores Beach Resort
4. The Old Fort in Lahaina
5. The 165-year-old Catholic Maria Lanakila Church (Our Lady of Victory) in downtown Lahaina and its rectory emerged so intact that the flowers lovingly placed at the altar the day before the fire were discovered there still in full bloom.
6. The Lahaina Baptist Church was untouched.
7. The Villages of Leiali’i is the only community in West Maui exclusively for Hawaiians.
8. The giant copper Buddha at the Jodo Mission, which serves as a gathering space in Lahaina for Buddhists and also the broader West Maui community, also survived the flames - along with a prized golden wooden sculpture.
9. The bronze casting called 'the Spirit of Aloha' from an art shop
10. The Waiola churchyard, home of the royal tomb that served as the launching pad for Hawaiian Christianity two centuries ago, made it through almost unscathed, its lawn still green, while a Hawaii state flag remarkably continued to ripple overhead.
11.Two churches in Lahaina that house wards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints —one whose members speak Tongan and one that is English-speaking — both remain standing with no major indications of damage.
12. Sugar cane Express Train- pretty well intact and say they will reopen on their website
13. The Old Lahaina Courthouse, Baldwin House and Seamen’s Hospital appear to be able to be restored
14. The Lahaina Lighthouse, a beacon of light for hundreds of years, seems to have been spared from the fires of Lahaina.King Kamehameha III established the Lahaina lighthouse, as the first lighthouse in Hawaii, in 1840. A second and then a third lighthouse were established in 1866 and in 1905.
15. Cannery Mall
16. Mala’s Tavern, Duckine, across the street from Mala’s on Front Street both say they are reopening. Honu’s survived as well
17. the Lahaina Roads Condominium at 1403 Front Street, just North of Cannery Mall and Mala, survived with virtually no fire damage

Maui wildfire aftermath brings gratitude to all. -

Both Sands Of Kahana and Hololani have power and have been unaffected by the fires. Our hearts and prayers go out to our Ohana in Maui.

Lahaina, Pulehu and Upcountry Maui fires Update 22

· Firefighting crews are continuing to extinguish flare-ups in the Lahaina and Upcountry Maui fires. In the Upcountry Maui fire, three structures in Olinda and 16 structures in Kula were destroyed. The Pulehu/Kīhei fire was declared 100 percent contained Saturday. Containment indicates what percentage of the fire perimeter has been enclosed by a control line and reflects opportunities for the fire to spread beyond its original border into new areas.
· A 1-acre fire reported Friday evening in Kaʻanapali above Puʻukoliʻi was extinguished.
· The number of confirmed fatalities increased to 93, with two of them identified. Police have not released their names, pending notification of their families.
· The American Red Cross emergency evacuation shelter at Maui High School in Kahului is being moved Sunday to the South Maui Gymnasium in Kihei. All activities are canceled at Kihei Regional Park due to the gym being used as an emergency evacuation shelter as of 9 a.m. Sunday.
· Kaiser Permanente outpatient health and medical clinics will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Lahaina Gateway Center, Napili Park and Lahaina Comprehensive Health Center at the Lahaina Civic Center.
· Two donated Wi-Fi trucks are stationed at Napili Park and Honokowai Park to provide Wi-Fi service and the ability to charge cellphones. The service is free to the public.
· About 180 people staying in emergency evacuation centers obtained reissued driverʻs licenses and state identification cards Saturday morning at the county Division of Motor Vehicles and Licensing. Fees were waived. County employees volunteered to open the division, and Department of Transportation buses took evacuees to the center.
· Lahaina Gateway Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday for distribution of food, water and other supplies. A potable water tanker is at the location.
· Napili Plaza is also distributing food, water and other supplies.
· Donations of non-perishable food, bottled water and hygiene products are being accepted at a War Memorial Complex field off Kanaloa Avenue from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. West Maui residents have requested coolers, slippers, underwear, flashlights and generators.
· With power being restored in some areas of West Maui, Ohana Fuels/ Minit Stop on Keawe Street in Lahaina and Kahana Gateway Shell are open for gasoline.
· A county Department of Water Supply precautionary unsafe water advisory remains in effect for Upper Kula and Lahaina areas affected by the wildfires. The advisory that residents should not drink and not boil water is issued out of an abundance of caution pending testing, and water tankers are in place at affected locations. In Lahaina, the advisory does not apply to Kaniau Road and areas north of the road including Villages of Leialiʻi. In Kula, water tankers are available at Crater Road, Copp Road, Kula Fire Station, Rice Park, Kula Community Center and Keokea. Visit mauicounty.gov/water for maps of affected Upcountry areas.

County of Maui is distributing food, water, clothing and other basic needs and supplies from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, to Lahaina Gateway and at Napili Plaza.
