Roseate Spoonbills get their pink coloration from the foods they eat. Crustaceans and other aquatic invertebrates contain pigments called carotenoids that help turn their feathers pink.

Today's is one of the most brilliant birds that I saw on this trip, a Roseate Spoonbill high up in the tree!! They were seen on an airboat ride to lake Hatchineha. Check out the link bio for high-res images and the entire album from the trip.⠀⠀⁠
