Tradewinds Farm Promoting and breeding quality Percheron horses as well as a few well broke riding horses suitable f Operated by Tyrel and Amy Frey.
(14)

We are a small family farm raising and promoting our homebred Percheron horses at the National and World Levels. We attempt to stay away from the pedigrees more commonly found at sales and show barns around the country, hoping to produce quality outcross horses who are capable of showing and winning at any level and produce the next generation. We must be doing okay, our horses are competing in mu

ltiple disciplines and excelling! We are very proud of what we have accomplished and hope to continue to produce attractive, well conformed, well mannered Percheron horses that anyone would be proud to own. We're always happy to show off the residents here at the farm, please feel free to give us a call and set up a visit

Look who's finally starting to look a little grown-up! We took a few updated photos of Tradewinds Wallace this afternoon to share. This son of BP Crossfire looks like he might want to be a show horse in a few years! Wally is out of a big, 18.3 hand, Zodiac daughter, and appears like he's going to take after her in the height department.

He is weaned and in kindergarten lessons currently; broke to lead and tie and learning body control cues. Wally is available if someone were looking for a big pretty prospect to grow up and start their way. Please pm us for particulars.

Wandered to the bottom of the field today to check the level of the irrigation pond and had a few girls tag along. There's supposed to be water directly behind that fence - clearly, we're a little dry.

All four mares came down and snorted at the water trickling in from where it fills from the cistern by the barn. But all were happy for the handfuls of fresh clover and grasses from the edges.

In all, they were excellent company for a quiet 15 minutes at sunset.

We took a few new photos of this guy while he's still clipped and polished from show season. Lucasia Ragnarock accompanied us to the summer shows and competed in the yearling stallion classes. He placed 3rd at the National Percheorn Show, 4th at Iowa and finished his year as the rsv Champion stallion at LaPorte.
This guy is going to make someone a really cool partner in the future! He is available if someone were looking for a stallion or gelding prospect to bring along. Pm us for particulars.

Congratulations Justin on your purchase of yearling filly, Lucasia Eva!

Eva came to us from our friends at Lucasia Ranch early this spring to add to the summer show string. Her best showing was at the Iowa State Fair, where she placed second.

We are excited to watch this filly continue to grow and mature and are looking forward to cheering her on this fall/next season with her new owners!

There's one troublemaker every season. That foal. The one who is into Everything! They're a monumental pest who 'assists' the humans with redecorating one minute and demands dinner in bed the next.

This year, that c**t is Wally.

He takes great delight in pulling all the polo's down and wearing them as scarves while they play in a different stall during the day. In the evenings though, he can't possibly stand up to eat dinner. He instead will reach as far as he can for the feed tub and then drag it closer so he can snack.

He ought to be extra entertaining in the next few years!

With temps forecasted in the high 80s with the added fun of high humidity for the next couple weeks, we've spent the last couple days introducing the idea of body clipping to some of the jr foals who haven't shed their foal coat yet. That heavy coat will trap the heat and causes the youngsters to sweat a lot more than a short coat would and it takes forever to dry on those hot and humid days, if it dries at all. The constant moisture next to the skin can cause additional problems, so we like to remove it to minimize the chances of a potential issue and also to help keep them more comfortable.

For miss Dizzy, clippers are not something to be concerned about. They're basically a heavy-duty massage gun that attacks all the really itchy spots. The bonus? We get to get a really good look at her conformation without the distraction of all the extra fuzz distorting things.

The most important thing we teach the youngsters who reside here is standing tied. In their stalls, in a field, in crossties - wherever. It's a life skill they'll require no matter their eventual career.

The yearling fillies who have been turned out to grow this spring and summer have been enjoying grain tubs out in the fields. But it's time to come back in and revisit some of those life skills again to freshen them in their minds before they move to the next phase - whether that's moving on to a new home or coming in the barn for a more intensive training schedule late fall/early spring.

They enjoyed the fancy hay with their grain and fans keeping them cool for an hour before they were turned back out to play as a group in their field.

Tradewinds Benchmark has been modeling the unkempt look for most of the spring season, but there were finally a few quiet minutes with nothing else pressing demanding our attention. So we used the time to clean up his bridle path, tidy his mane and give him the extra attention he so obviously deserves.

Benny likely won't head to any shows himself, but he ought to have at least a couple of c**ts from his freshman crop head out to some shows this year. We will post photos and results of their endeavors as the season progresses!

We've finally finished up the bulk of breeding and foaling season! Thank you to all our friends and customers who used our stallions or had us foal out your mares this season.

With only one mare left to breed this season, we've been able to turn our focus onto some of this year's foals. To say we're pleased with the first crop of Benchmark foals would be an understatement. The whole group of them have begun stretching and unfolding into quite impressive youngsters.

Pictured is Tradewinds Sherlock (Tradewinds Benchmark x Tradewinds Shine, by Blooming Grove Midnight) on his first real outing since weaning began last week.

We will have some foals available, as well as a mature mare or two later this season. Please pm if you're interested in further info.

Our final foal of 2024 made his appearance early Thursday morning. He needed some extra help to get going, but has hit all his milestones and got a chance to go outside this morning. He is by Tradewinds Benchmark and out of DLF Miss Macy (Cedarfarm Ontario x SG Malinda, by Windermere King Cong).

We have been very impressed with how the Benchmark foals look and grow in this, his freshman season. This c**t has all the earmarks to be just as nice once he has a chance to stretch and unfold.
We're deliberating on a name for him and welcome any input. The only requirement is that the suggestions start with the letter M

Special Delivery! She's here!

We'd all but given up on having any fillies this season; thankfully, Ash came through for us.

This pretty girl arrived at nine pm yesterday. She is by Tradewinds Benchmark and out of one of our favorite homebred mares, Tradewinds Diamante (Blooming Grove Midnight x DLF Demitasse, by Windermere In Command).

Now the deliberation begins on settling on her name!

It's always one of our favorite days of the year when we can turn mares out in fresh green fields. These two girls are two of the three matriarchs who live here.
They both have daughters in our program who are producing the next generation and while these two are beginning to show their age, we are hopeful that we will get to welcome at least one more foal from each of them. The black mare is Lucasia Lady Destine, the grey is Black Prairie W View's Jet. Between them, they can claim direct influence on four of the horses within our program, with a few others being a bit more distantly related. They have certainly earned the right to be the first mares turned out in the fresh grass!

Look who made it to the front field today! Wyna and baby Wallace got the priority pasture space today. They spent the morning exploring all the extra room to run! Wyna continues to be an exemplary first-time momma and has done a great job keeping track of little Will in this large space. Maybe tomorrow we'll turn them out with some friends!

We've had a few new faces in the barn this spring! We had a few youngsters make their way into our barn the last couple months from our friends at Lucasia Ranch in Alberta.
We are always thankful that we're entrusted with such nice young stock to promote and show/market during the summer season, especially when they look like this girl!
This is Lucasia Eva (LD's Legacy Yammer Hammer x Lucasia Evelyn, by Lucasia Caltain T). Eva is an extremely pretty individual, with a lot of excellent qualities that should make her an asset to a lot of different programs. We're excited to see how she continues to progress during her kindergarten lessons and into the summer season!

He's here! Our only maiden mare of the season decided to lay down early this morning and delivered this guy.

It's always a little extra stressful waiting for a maiden mare to decide today's the day. Will they take to their foal or hate them? Will they need extra help learning their new career? Will they stand and let us help them and their foals get a good start?

Thankfully, this particular girl quickly relieved our worries and has taken to her new role like she's done this a hundred times before.

Meet Tradewinds Wallace! Little Will is out of our girl Tradewinds Wynona (Lucasia Zodiac x Ryan Day Flash's Willow) and by BP Crossfire. He has hit all his milestones so far! He needs a few days to straighten out a little and then we'll post some more photos of him and his dam.

After making us wait 365 days, he's finally here! SanLan First Degree (Raona Commanding Knight x Little Bow Spitzie, by MEF Hotshot 2nd) had this extra large c**t by Tradewinds Benchmark early this morning.
In typical Kandy fashion, she wanted no help with getting him started. So once we made sure he had made it out safely and had his navel dipped, we headed back in to observe them on the cameras. So far, he has hit all the milestones we like to see and looks like he's about ready to demand to go out and play!

Halter school for Hawkeye! He is very unimpressed with our efforts to domesticated him. His favorite thing to do is run and this containment device is going to make it too easy for the people to keep him a bit closer.

Finally! He's arrived! We welcomed our second foal of the 2024 foaling season early this morning. This big c**t, dubbed Hawkeye, is by Tradewinds Benchmark and out of A&E's Heather Lyn. She certainly made sure he was "well done" before she decided it was time to have him.
He's going to need some time to unfold those extra-long legs, but he looks pretty cool so far!

It's been a busy few days for these two! There are a few youngsters here in the que to get some halter lessons, so we got started with the most curious one. Sherlock is rethinking being friends with his humans. But he has taken to halter school very quickly! We're really impressed with this c**ts mind and enthusiasm so far.

Every afternoon, without fail, this grumpy face makes its way to the gate to await the humans retrieving her for the trip inside for dinner. Miss Lexie has some very serious concerns about our time management skills. If you're a couple minutes behind the schedule she deems appropriate, she'll let you know; in the form of gate rattling or bouncing the fence boards. She makes her presence known in all kinds of fun ways. And even when her antics are driving her humans crazy, we are so glad that she made the return trip home last spring to spend her golden years here with us.

While half the crew ran off to the Mid-America Draft Horse Sale and visited with friends we don't get to see often enough, one of us spent some extra time with this baby and his sweet momma. They had a chance to head out to the roundpen and stretch their legs while their stall was cleaned and rebedded, and then came back in for a well-deserved nap.

And he has a name! Meet Tradewinds Sherlock (Tradewinds Benchmark x Tradewinds Shine, by Blooming Grove Midnight).

We kicked the 2024 foaling season off this morning!

Tradewinds Shine presented us with the very first foal by Tradewinds Benchmark at chore time. We're liking what we see so far and are looking forward to watching this one grow and unfold in the coming weeks. He's hit all his milestones thus far and is happily exploring as much of the area around him as momma will allow. Now to come up with an appropriate name!

It was a little chilly this morning during turnout! The coming yearling fillies have a new paddock they're headed to each morning, which has caused a little hysteria. There are new things to look at and a donkey to greet in an adjoining field, so they tend to get a little bit of a showmanship school on the way out each day to remind them of their manners. The last girl headed out of the barn this morning was Tradewinds Saphira (Maple Groves Gamblers Ace x Tradewinds Shine, by Blooming Grove Midnight). She has grown a lot over the winter and has become quite a cool young mare to have in the barn!

There's a new face in the barn this week! This sweet yearling c**t is DLF Dynamo D/S, a Shady Lanes Abner son out of DLF D'Eleanor, an HF Cassius Clay daughter. Mr Merlin came to visit in the hopes we could find him the perfect new home.
This dude is very cool! He has a happy disposition and is a very pretty mover with a lot of natural lift. He could be a fun partner for virtually any discipline. He's expected to mature in the 17hh range. Please pm the page for particulars.

Is that.... the Sun?!? We had a few minutes of sunshine this evening during chores! It finally peeked through the clouds after days of gloom and cold. It will probably be even colder now, but it sure made a beautiful backdrop for photos tonight. This is our own Tradewinds Benchmark posing for photos. We are expecting his first crop of foals a little later this season.

The frigid temps are starting to get to the humans around here, but the horses seem to be weathering it pretty well. Tonight, we walked Glenview Connie's Birdman out of the barn and he obligingly set up and stood for a quick update shot of how he's matured this winter. He clearly hasn't matured out of the stage every kid goes through.... if there's a giant pile of snow pushed back from the driveways, someone ought to climb it!
